we'll need some information on your system

For now, uninstall, then reinstall (Uninstall all the model packs first)
try running it with no model packs, then try installing them again

First of all, chill.

Now that we've done that, post a screen shot with your issue, and I'll be able to help.

i would uninstall everything (FPSC too) and reinstall just FPSC, and update it to V 1.16, if that works, install the model packs

I know this is long but read it, if you want my help. Otherwise, you can ignore it.

First of all if you started just using v116, you have to know that it is a little slower on compiling the portals and it will go through the portals twice. Believe me, there is a good reason for this. Maybe be a little more patient and see if it will get through it. Of course it doesn't take and extreme amount of time.

I have probably had to do this a number of times. However, it is getting better. I also have a dozen or more model packs.

The first step is to copy the entire FPSC Creator Files folder. Hopefully you have a USB hard drive or something. You can always burn a CD of the folder.

I would uninstall everything. Then delete the FPSC directories. I also go into the windows registry (XP) and deleted everything that had a reference to FPS Creator I'm afraid an uninstall does not clean up the registry. If you go into the registry be very careful, though. I want this to be as clean of an install as possible. If you have a registry cleaner (regcure or registry mechanic) then that might take care of the extraneous registry entries.

It was mentioned before. Install FPSC. I have it on a disk. Then install the new official upgrade, v116. See if this will work. Then either install all your purchased model packs. If you copy the files folder all you have to is copy the model packs back into the appropriate folders. Entitybank/Segments/texturebank/scriptbank depending on the models. If you don't get everything copied over then you will have other problems which then we will probably hear from you again. Safest is to install. These should not cause any problems but test anyway. Copy all 3rd party models one at a time unless you are absolutely sure they have worked before and then test. It really could be a bad segment model that could be messing up the portals.

BTW, I have had to do this just in the last couple of days because the build game would crash. Test levels worked, though. In fact I had to re-install windows. So, you think you have problems?

You will need to be a bit more specific on the part it crashes. Here's what I mean (example):

1. It crashes when I click "Build" or "Test"
2. I have minimal items on the map. It's a segment of 16 squares with a marker, or it's a 5 deep level with multiple entities, etc.
3. I'm running v1.16 of FPSC
4. I'm using/not using a mod
5. I have these models/packs, etc

This way we can help you instead of trying to "guess" the problem. As Flatlander said, and I can swear to his words, he had a major issue and spend an entire day re-installing everything. Believe me, we want to help you, but your descriptions seem a bit vague.

One piece of advice, and by no means is this a slam on you, but a topic of "money wasted, thanks a lot TGC" won't get you any help. We all have issues with the software. I've run mine with "no" issues yet (knock on wood) but if I did suddenly have a major problem, I certainly would not slam the software or make a post with a topic like this. You'll find people won't want to help if that is the approach, but are more receptive to those that ask and want to learn and understand why/how to fix the problem. Just my 2 cents extra...

Cheers

Mike

Coming to us, complaining you've wasted your money and expecting help when you haven't even given us an error message seems a tad arrogant to me.

Where I come from, that sounds like a threat. Forget about it.

In addition to what others have said... uninstall everything, delete the directories, remove the registry entries, etc... there is something else you should know.

Let's say you're tooling along with V1.16 of FPS Creator and life is good. Then you decide to install a model pack, like say MP5. MP5 replaces your V1.16 with V1.03. Ooops.

After you install a model pack, especially one that's not recent, run the latest update again to return the program to the latest version.

We always made it practice when installing a model pack to install the v1.16 update again just to be on the safe side. Never had any issues so far. Thanks for that reminder Brian, since some packs don't necessarily tell you it has reverted back.

Almost the same thing happened to me the first time I installed FPS Creator, it would just freeze for 2 or 3 minutes when I was testing the game and it would create hundreds of portal not on the floor level but under the floor all the way down where you fall of the level and die, if you would create a simple floor and look down you would see all the portals.

I fixed by changing the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 and Administrator rights also.

I hope this helps.

Agreed, the packs are too great to ignore, but teh bug isn't TGCs fault! Well, I can't say anything that hasn't been said. I always run cleaner after every pack I installed and re-install FPSC, if I need to.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Brandon1 2 3 This is what to do!
Having fell foul of some of the updates especially v1.16 I had to start all over again. Only problem is once your installation is messed up it's hard to untangle it maybe it refuses to uninstall as mine did saying 'catastrophic error' and a reinstall or repair over the existing one doesn't help.
Here's a way around it.
Go into your program files and rename 'the game creators' folder as e.g. 'my old fpsc'. Remove the shortcut from your desktop.
Now insert your copy of fpsc and when it automatically runs it will include the proper install option.
You now have a clean install of version 1.
You can even copy and paste the original 'files' folder from the old install to the new one including all your model packs.
You can then if you wish update the new install as far as version 1.15.
Version 1.16 in my opinion is a dead dog giving you all the bugs and faults from fpscx10 with none of the plus such as rag doll etc.
Even if all goes wrong all you do is delete the new 'the game creators' folder from the program files and shortcut and rename your original folder back to 'the game creators' and your'e back where you started with no harm done.
I am now back to the original version one and it's working fine...
Your anger is quite understandable as any consumer expects the product to work. The only thing I can say in TGCs favour is that they are attempting to produce high quality game products at a garage games price and therefore we have to make allowances.
Do not under any cicumstances go anywhere near your registry unless you want an entire computer that doesn't work!
good luck

I have had the same problem too.
What I did was get everything install first in the order that it is (ex: FPS, Pack 1, Pack 2, upgrade versions, etc.....)and the last installment is the V1.16.
Now my is running fine and to far i haven't had any problems.
