Only a few days. You can buy DBP from this site, or Amazon.co.uk

I haven't yet seen a retail store which stocks DBP.

Hi Rob K

I just spoke to some one, a dbpro user, who said authoritatively, that DBpro does not come with in built engines.

I know this sound ignorant, plus I am no longer certain what an engine is, but I thought that was what it was about.

Does one have to create a games engine ones self

DBPro uses DirectX as its "engine". You will have to code all of the game logic yourself obviously, but actually getting the 3D onto the screen, etc, has been done for you.

CompUSA will be stocking DBPro shortly, although not at present.

I've ordered mine at http://www.retrowarez.com. it's only £45 (+£1 p+p for outside the UK) there although it hasn't come yet.

Thanks Richard.

I was comparing DBpro with going from MS V C#, can you say definitly that I'll get a massive head start using DBpro rather than VC#.

That is, using vc++ or vc#, never mind c/c++ would require coding more things like getting the graphic's on screen as you put it ?

I now know that no 1 person can do every thing, I am more interested in prototyping using DBpro an only then going down the big team , big graphics road if the prototype whets an appetite for more.

After all. I don't think the expert programmers here an else where would commit X amount off their precious time/months to an unproven concept

I don't know how skilled you are in C++ to say if it would be better for you or not. I believe DBPro would be significantly faster to proto-type with than C++, but for ultimate flexability the C++ route is best. Most experienced developers here use both together (extending DBPro with C++ DLLs), you could too.

Rich

Hi Richard

Thanks for that. My C++ is quite poor as I haven't looked seriously at it for 4 years, but C# which is "Sans" pointers is my aim now

Well , I've been looking at the DB trial version an I am very impressed so far

Cheers
