ok, i have a Windows 7 x86 system (at least i think its x86...)

i have been trying to use Dark GDK but for some reason, i
keep getting the same error

1>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'dxerr9.lib'

now, i have had Dark GDK install its version of August 2007 SDK. the only problem i can see with that is that when it finishes it says, roughly, "Your version of XAudio2 is out of date"

i also have installed the August 2009 SDK. both of these files are in the Include part of the Tools, but it still wont work, and i have no idea why..

It sounds like the wrong version of Direct X is being linked into your code. You should be able to resolve this by rearranging the position of your DirectX libraries in the linker list.

I would try going to Tools->Options->Projects and Solutions->VC++Directories

Under the Show Directories for drop down menu go to libray files and then click the little folder and browse to the August 2007 SDK lib folder should look like this:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (August 2007)\Lib\x86

try the x86 one first then the other x64 I think. Hopefully one of them works.

That can sometimes fix the problem.

thank you SO much. thats what it was. the August 2009 SKD was the only one registering there, and seeing as how every kept pointing to the INCLUDE files, i never knew to check there...

i added the August 2007 one and it works now, so thank you again
