I'm not going to kill myself, i'm just trying to download a 10 meg program (TI Connectivity Kit) on a 56k modem. if all goes well, i'll hit the 50% mark on my 75th birthday. UNLESS- I switch to a high speed connection. Problem is, they usually cost money. The cheapest I've seen is $30 a month. That's good, but i'm still trying to play price-limbo. Anyone seen a cheaper price? I'll be indebted to you forever.

$30 a month is hella cheap. usually it's at least $40.

secondly a 10MB file only takes 30 minutes on our slow modems it's not that long.

and thirdly -- i hate you. you know why? you're whining about prices when you don't know how lucky you are to even be able to GET broadband! where i live it's not an option. but a quarter mile in any direction and you can get it! cute!

note: i don't actually hate you, i'm just jealous

$30 a month is assuming i can get broadband in my area (i just began looking around at prices). and no matter how long it takes to download something on a computer the speed always fluxuates (usually between 2-4 kbps per second for me).

TI Connectivity Kit? Dont the calcs come with that on the CD they come with, or did you buy one that doesnt come with a CD? If you've got anything lower than an 83+, or an 85, 86, or 92 (not plus, plus is good) then I suggest upgrading to an 83+ SE, 89, 92+, or Voyage 200, all come with the software they need on a CD that comes with it.

Personnaly, I'm getting an 89 soon, great games for it on www.ticalc.org, and it'll help me with Geometry greatly.

I've heard of Juno speedband or whatever. Not sure exactly what it is, but it must be better than dial-up. Its only 14.95/month.

I once paid for a download version of NetObjects - 56 Megabytes. I had 56K modem at the time, and there was no restart on the download server.

By the end of the night, I was creeping around the house in case a creaky floorboard upset it.

The US has pretty good High Speed, usually just as fast as what we have in Canada, tho we are the test bed for most broadband companies.

I spend $69.99 a month Canadian, so $45.00USD, but its rare I ever DL slower then 800kb. Some DLs like the HZ beta, a 792mb DL, took 13 minutes, Microsoft I usually get near 1mb/sec. I have hit 3mb / sec but that is rare.

My upload is capped at 500kb up, still super fast. But I do pay for a business connection, the slightly slower home connection is $30 CDN so 20 USD probally.

Big range of prices.
Mine is $49.99 US
The best Single souce DL I have since was when I downloaded MS AGE OF METHOGOLGY hit 500KB/s, but normally DL around 100KB/s
But my UL is very slow I think the best I have seen was only around 100KB/s, normally 20-30KB/s
