Looking solid so far, few crits ok?

The thing around his leg doesn't seem to fit that well, seems too think if it is a bandage or something.

Those hind legs need beefing out, they look very weak right now.

The blend between his back and the horse back seems a bit awkward, looks like he is trying to keep his back up if you know what i mean.

Maybe an easier to read matcap? Seems a bit harsh to me when i look at it.

Like i said, its early days, and its looking very good.

Thanks, yeah still very early in the dev process. I've only flushed out the front, haven't done any work on the back. The leg wrap will have a belt attatching it to the foot and waist. Its not a matcap, its not rendered in ZB, I rendered it in max and threw an orange diffuse on it, just thought it looked cool .

I generally work the entire mesh at once, so Im now going to flesh out the back half of him, add some musculature, then go up a layer and start adding in the next level of details.

Thanks again.

Its an issue of which anatoym I choose to go with. Typical centaurs have both sets of legs as a horse style. I've chosen to make the front legs human style. If I went with the horse style, it would look a lot more fluid, as they would be spaced farther out and more beside the stomache instead of coming out of it. Im still tweaking the transition between horse and human, I plan on making it more fluid, but I want to retain the human legs, and not go all-out with the horse.

Serious or very stupid here.

If he has mans front legs and a horse back legs, what on earth are you going to do with the groin area??

Cover it up with the cloth as I've done . In my mind his family jewels remain in the human orientation.

Then again, I could give him both .

Not to be too much of a critique, but you better beef up his 'human' legs if he's gonna carry around the weight of a horse on them. I doubt that a centaur with human front legs could even run. walking will be hard enough.

Maybe it's me, and my being set in my mythological ways.

Cheers!

Those strong horse back legs are totally gonna faceplant him into the ground. No way those human legs are gonna be able to keep up.

EDIT: It does give an idea for a HILARIOUS render piece. You could name it "Centaur Anatomy Epic Fail". Then show him in a similar pose as this picture. Or perhaps an animation.

Very cool model, but yeah right now it basically looks like a man with a horse growing out of his butt.

I'm no anatomy expert, but I think the human front legs plus horse back legs is going to be hard to animate, as the knees do not match hightwise. Plus it is hard to blend a human run with a horse galop, there isn't much similarity. Good luck with it though. =)
The human part its starting to look pretty good, but I think you need to consider how the spine of the horse part goes up in to the human back, I have to agree with the others. Have fun!

The entire model isn't really worth the effort to change too much. This isn't for my professional portfolio, just a small demo reel I need to do for college showing rough ZBrush sculpts (we're only supposed to spend 4 hours on each). He wont be being animated, just a still pose. Generally I would care if it was for anything more than this "portfolio" assignment, but in this case it really doesn't matter too much. Just figured Id throw him up here since I haven't posted anything on 3D Chat for quite some time now.

Anyways he's pretty much done now, I hit my 4 hours so I've left him alone. Ill post with the final version in a few days when things aren't so hectic with my assignments.

That's cool, hope you didn't take my post the wrong way. It's an impressive sculpt. Just picturing in my head how he might move makes me giggle.
