Can you change the color of the sky and clouds using it?

I want to give the sky a different color, and I wouldn't want to waste money on it before purchasing.

I have been working on this tonight, was just going to bed and seen your post.

As I have found with DBP, anything is possible.

Different colours are not yet a part of the Dark Clouds package, though I think it may be added later.

Here are a few screenshots of my workaround at the moment. I’m sure there will be many ways to achieve this, possibly with fancy shaders but this is short, simple and it works.

Basically I made a Sky sphere, textured it the colour I wanted then Ghosted the object. This gives the shade of colour you want to the sky, while still seeing the clouds.

Wonderful solution!

I'll think about buying it.

Thanks Baxslash,

I think Dark Clouds is great, though I have still to use it in any of my projects, though I’m sure it will fit nicely with my latest one.

Have you checked - your profile (link at the top of every page)/ Order history then Activation Keys, My Dark clouds key is unnamed for some reason.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

...yes, mine too.

Turns out that I was using U75 which needed up(down)grading to U74 for it (and DarkLights I also bought!) to work.

Working fine now thanks and I have a few ideas for games to fit it into myself!! Great!

Slightly disapointed in a couple of things though;
1- Although the writeup says "Real-time volumetric clouds" which I took to mean 3D (Volume = more than two dimensions no?) it only produces a 2D backdrop which is OK but when I saw it being used in a flight sim demo online I thought it was all 3D...

2- The Rain seems to have two settings (maybe I'm doing it wrong?) "deluge" or "off"... I set it to '1.0' in strength and '0.1' with no difference in strength...

3- When you look "up" or "down" you get a weird circular effect in the clouds (I assume it's projected onto a sky-sphere) and sometimes clouds appear and disappear...

On the plus side;
1- It does produce real time skies that look great in most circumstances

2- Framerate footprint is next to nothing

On the whole I think I'd give it about 8/10 (only loosing points for the price and factors mentioned above)

@baxslash:
They ARE volumetric clouds. I mean, you CAN fly through them, above them or below them. Here's a screenie of flying through those clouds:

And here's the code:

@The Slayer, they are rendered to a 2D image which is then textured to the backdrop. They are a 2D image which goes behind any 3D object you place on the screen so if you have an object 300 metres away it will not be hidden by the cloud which 'should' be 1 metre away...

They are calculated as 3D objects in the engine but can only be used as a backdrop in DBP.

Yes, you can fly through them but they will never realistically interact with your scene unless you are ONLY using it as a background. That said I think SIMUL might be trying to integrate a simulated collision system which would make it appear to be fully 3D (from another thread I read yesterday).

I am using Cloggy's D3D plugin for a flat-projection camera (D3D_SET_ORTHO_PROJECTION Camera, View Width)
for my "2D" platform game and would like to use darkclouds for the sky behind, however it doesn't want to work correctly. Any ideas?

Thanks.

In what way does it not work?

Can't get it to display clouds properly. Here is the test code I was using from the forums with the addition of the D3D_SET_ORTHO_PROJECTION command:

You'll need cloggy's D3D plugin to run the above example or you can replace D3D_SET_ORTHO_PROJECTION 0,1 with SET CAMERA FOV 361.45. In either event, the problem is the same. I've tried playing around with camera position but haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Thanks!

Well, since you're using a function, I think you must declare the variable time# global at the start of your game, before calling SetupClouds().

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks, that does help some... I can see the clouds moving faintly now but now the problem is that it appears to be so close to the camera that you cannot make out any detail so everything is very washed out.

Best.
