Hi

Truespace is the only 3D modelling program I have ever used, courtesy of free old versions . I could just about visualise buying the full up to date version, uggh !! Afterall, one might buy MS Visual studion one day

Anyway, can models created in Truespace be imported to DBpro

Cheers

If you have a later version of TS that supports .X export or you have a program that converts .COB to .3DS or .X you should be good to go.

I've only tested TS 3.2 and none of the .x files I exported work in dbpro.

Apparently this has been a problem in TS for a while, but the latest version might be ok.

Gamespace is out soon and is half the price of TS 6.5, so you might want to check that out.

TS 6.6 is the current version. That was a bug fix release as well as adding a particle system and fixing some physics problems and speed increases for some functions.

If Caligari continues to fix the problems in TS I might consider using it again.

One sore spot I have with TS is that you can't scrub a sound track. So synching your animations to a sound source is a real chore. This isn't a good thing for putting a video game together.

Since upgrading to 6.6 I've had no problems with using it with DBPro, especialy now they have fixed the mirror tool

All the .x files I have exported with ts 3.2 work in dbpro. I haven't done it with any models that have animation just imported .3ds models exported from wings3d and converted them to .x.

I have TS4.3 and have had no problems with .x exporting. Just remember: DBP cannot load ASCII .x files. Luckly it defaults to saving in binary though so it shouldn't be a problem.

Current Projects: Game Spawn 85%, mini BSP maker 50%, Height Mapper with many features 75%, Space Tactical (Like BC300AD) 15%.

Sorry to call you out on this, but DBP does use ascii .X files. In fact, I use nothing but ascii .X files for my models.

[Disclaimer: I do most of my modelling now in DoGA CGA/Metasequoia. So, it is possible that there is a .X export problem in TS 4.3 that I am not aware of. I'll test that out as time permits today.]

Several minutes later...

OK, using TS 4.3, I checked the 'save as ascii' box on the .X export and it saved the file just fine and DBP had no problem using it. Since I'm not a TS guru, I didn't test out any of the advanced features.

Truespace is really really good for DBP. Only problem is I can't UV map.

Any suggustions on what programs to use for TS UV mapping?
(I have lithunwrap, do you think that's the best option to learn?)

Ok, my turn for a question, I bought TS 4.3 for $99 back when it was on sale. Given that I'm a rookie with it, is there anything in v6.6 that is a must have feature?

Maybe the particle effects. Don't know really, cause I have TS 5.2

Back to my other question.

unwarp is the easiest way.

unwarp the object, save as bmp file. open it in Paint or Pixia or what ever you use, paint it and save it again to reimport in lithunwrap and put it on the object
works really great
