Newcomers DBPro Corner / Syntax Errors

Ok i am a total noob, so please dont slate me. I am using DBPro Online Free Version, And i'm right at the beggining of learning, i have just started to read and try TDK_Mans Guide and i keep getting SYNTAX ERRORS when i click the Complile and Run Button (Green Triangle)


And i'm only at the 1st piece of code.

I duuno if you need any of the following info but just incase.

Vista 32
Updated to latest updates
Visual Studio 2008
DirectX SDK Aug 2007
Dark GDK

That should work, is everything installed properly?
Try to run the repair feature of the installer (if there is one, I think so anyway) or re-install the whole thing.

It could be because your using windows vista. This is the link to the Windows Vista Compatibility Thread. It shows you how to install DBPro on Vista.

He shouldn't get syntax errors in that case. Possibly an "unknown error", if he's using the new IDE though.

I reinstalled it again and i stil get the problems.. amybe i need to reinstall windows..?

Try the following snippet:



DBP automatically quits and returns to the editor when a program has run, so adding the Wait Key will keep the program running until you press a key.

There's nothing in the beginners tutorials that only works in DB Classic, so your problem is not with the code you are typing in.

I don't use Vista myself, but I know it can cause problems with DB due to restrictions on writing files to certain directories, but fixes to this are adequately covered in the above link.

If i click Compile and run in debug mode the code runs fine, but i get a Error when exiting the code Vista puts up one of those Close the program popups, In the problem details i get this,

Clearly the best option, but people don't like it when you suggest such drastic action - and many don't have the knowhow to do it anyway.

Less hassle all round with XP and DB, so good choice!
