Because of a small argument with a certain member on the chat. We are not discussing the chat style change on there. If you have the attitude thinking you will complain for hours until we change it, don't bother using the chat.

I have to say that faster or not, I'm not a fan of the new chat. It only pings if I am in another non-fullscreen app. If I have chat open and browsing in another window I never know if there is any activity. It's also sort of ugly.

I don't go there as often as I used to either. The ping loss was unfortunate, because I have to keep checking the chat window every few seconds while I'm modeling to see if anyone's responded. And for some reason, when I first tried the new room, the white background with plain black text was really straining my eyes.

I've gotten used to it the second time in, but I can't stay in there as long as I used to be able to. Oh well. At least other members are getting good use out of it, so it does seem to be serving its purpose.

Not really a fan of the new chat either; for reasons given. I'd be willing to put up with the lag again.

Well for now you guys will have to deal with it. IRC is a much faster chat and just because it doesnt have as many features doesnt make it that bad!

I'll try to take a look and see if I can find a better script, but until then, the chat is usable and I'm sure you guys can bear it for now

Same here. The old layout and features were worth the lag IMO (which I didn't think was that bad to begin with). Maybe someone else should consider starting up a new server for those of us willing to tolerate the lag for the more dynamic interface and extra features? That way the community would be free to join the chatroom of their preference?

I suppose I could look into something next week and help out if the hosters of the IRC servers don't want to run the extra server...

You will have to bear with me and Lewis, because no matter what we find, there seems to be one thing wrong with any chat we use.

You will have that issue no matter what you choose. You won't find one that pleases everyone. My opinion is you find one that runs well on your server and can be handled with ease, both for the users and the admin/mods. I had no issue with the FlashChat because we run one already and are familiar with it, both on the user side and admin side. I have no issue with the FlashIRC because we also run one and are familiar with it, both on the user side and the admin side. For us it was a win-win.

If FlashChat runs fairly decent and is good for you to administer, stick with that. If IRC is best, then stick with that. You will have to find a balance between the lag and the options/gizmos the interface provides. Users will have to make their own choice to either use it or not use it once you decide which to use. Otherwise, you two will be running around trying to please everyone until you're over 40.

Ultimately, the goal is to provide a place to chat. I'm certain you two will find something to help achieve that. If users don't want to use it, it's their choice and should not deter you.

Cheers

Mike

I hear you BlackFox, i really want to find a platform that can bring the best of IRC and Flash, but finding one will prove difficult. I will post any updates as they come.

(Edited to make it super simple for people to understand, as people are obviously having a hard time ^_^)

@People on the chat who were spamming insults about the chat,

The change has changed to a better one now. It's not flashchat and its not IRC, but a combination of both with sounds, fonts, private chat etc, but without the themes unfortunatley.

This is the last time that chat is changing, so those who are still grief stricken that you cant have themes, then I am dreadfully sorry but I am afraid that there will be no further changes.

There, that better for you guys?

Update: We now have a server side Chat, much like the Flash chat, with all of the features you love, but it is also super fast, check it out!

Note- We are having difficulties with Chrome, if you cannot login, use an alternate browser.

Wow, good thing the chatroom is free I wouldn't call it 'whining' just because some people prefer one setup to the other and are stating their opinions on that. After all, if this whole chatroom thing was setup for the community (hence the sticky), the community's opinions should be taken into consideration, and not disregarded as 'whining'.

Kraven, we did take it into account, that is why it is now a new chat.

I do believe Lewis directed the Whining comment towards a select few who simply would not stop complaining.

It's a shame that something as obvious as this has to be said in public. You really would do better to let Asteric handle public relations. He always knows enough to follow your rude and childish remarks with a common sense post. What are you, like 8 years old?

Why, do you want me to do what an 8 year old with admin powers would do? I suggest you stop flaming chat staff in the thread. As Jake said, It wasnt directed towards you, so kindly refrain from commenting on nothing that concerns you.

It's harder to stay logged in while idle (for me). Using either IE or FF it will crash after a while. I check it several times a day but yeah, it's looked pretty dead the last few days. s4real and I were in for about 6hrs a few days ago; procrastination support group lol

It does appear that a few people are starting to maybe get bored of the chat, but if you hold on for a little longer, me and Lewis are in talks of a few treats and systems to make the chat more entertaining.
