Error 1 fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'DarkGDK.h': No such file or directory c:\users\matthew\documents\visual studio 2008\projects\letstryagain\letstryagain\main.cpp 8

I tried reinstalling the august 2007 version which really didn't work too well.

Are your directory paths properly set up in Visual Studio? Have a look at the "Installation.pdf" document in the directory where you installed Dark GDK, by default it is:
C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\Dark GDK\Installation.pdf
It describes how to set up the include directories.
