I've heard that it's pretty good for beginners and pros alike. I also heard(don't quote me on it)that you can't rig/animate characters and/or weapons in it either. But that don't stop it from crankin out some static entities! So before I take it for a test drive, I'd like to hear some of your guy's thoughts on it's capability and wether or not you would reccomend it to someone who doesn't know jack-diddily squat about 3d modelling. Thanks.

We like it. More specifically, my wife Cathy uses it. Last night she made a box for her Egyptian game, had it textured, and exported into FPSC within 2 hours. She has never done models before. Turned out better than the missile crate I was making for my game.

We find it was a good start for us new people to use. She found quite a few different tutorials that were easy for her to follow along and learn.

Cheers

It is great. Tonight my wife made a cup, more specifically a goblet. She has more talent than I do. I made a box, messed it up, put two grooves in it and called it an ashtray

And thanks to GJ for the tutorial on UV Mapping we know how to do textures.

Cheers

I personally use wings 3d if i need to make static models fast or want to do some fine tuning to my models. it is a very easy to use program and is a great start for any beginner. The only problem with this program is it does not support animation.

Therefore i say learn the basics with wings then when your ready move on to something with animation. for example Modo.

I have used it, it was very user freindly. With a little effort you can make some good models.

It is easy to use for a beginner. I am an accountant by profession, but in the last week I have taught myself (by tinkering around) how to make a goblet, a wine glass, and different types of pots and vases (that I will be using in my Egyptian game). So if I can do it, with no graphic design background, anyone can.

Actually i like Blender and MS3D, 3ds max much more better i found 3ds max easier then this simple wings 3d. But of course i only spent 30 minutes on it. I think i gets a little to "simple" and that a new user should learn from MS3D. And then develop skills enough to move on (blender or max or anything beyond)...

But remember it dosent matter of the capibilty of the tool, only the users imagination

Sometimes it is the capability of the tool, especially if the user is not familiar with 'design terms'. I found Wings 3D alot easier then Milkshape. So for those who have designed for months or even years, you can't compare it to how a beginner first feels when they open up the Application to use (when one has never seen a design program before). Imagination is one thing...but if you can't use a program to put your 'thoughts' on paper/screen, then what good is it. As a Company entity, my husband has 3DS Max and uses it, and I , as a beginner found it very complicated to use. I am quite happy with Wings 3D and would recommend it to other beginners.
