Ok. It is just starting to be spring break, I have few hours at work, and I will have a lot of free time. So, to kill free time, I am going to attempt to model a photo realistic, pen. I am starting the main model now. The color are temporary. Will I ever finish this project? I dunno, seeing as my gun blade was forced to be abandoned thanks to lack of time. (Was working on it in school, and teacher yelled at me to do coursework, I am in high school.)

I am making the model in Silo 2.1 Pro, which I just bought. It is a pretty fun modeling program.

Update on the pen, here is a render, has no texture yet. Working on that next, not colored, basic Blender render.

Thank you, I plan on adding a wood table/floor plane to sit it on, and make the pen reflective and shinier.

This is the ref image. The infamous and famous space pen. I also plan on adding the rivets in it.

Latest update.. This project is slowly leaving my photorealism goal behind....

What if you changed the diffuse color to something a little closer to white, bumped up the specularity, and decreased the specular hardness, and increased the reflectiveness? I think that might give you more of the shiny steel look.

You're using Blender to do the renders, right? Well if that's the case, you can play around with the file I attached. It might help with getting a good metal texture.

It's looking good so far! Keep it up.

For the first render I used Blander, second Modo. I plan on using Blender for my renders eventually, I just have almost no knowledge of how it works.

*Downloads file now*

**EDIT**

Hm... I have had a change of heart. I will make a scene with a desk, pen, a pad, and a lamp at the least. Realistic or not, it is my goal.

**Edit 2**

Just learned how to import mats in blender. ^^ SS of render of your mat here in a sec.

I've never used Modo, but Blender is by far my favorite 3D tool. Not just for rendering, but for everything from the start.

I don't see why that scene can't be a realist goal. I mean, you've got the pen coming nicely along, the rest shouldn't be that much harder. I'd like to see it.

Edit: Didn't see your second edit. Hm, I it kind of looks like there's a different material on the cap. Is there?

No, same mat, is seems as if the cap contently has a dif material, but it is tied to the same one. Methinks that it just does not have the same lighting... I am not going to worry about it until I get to the final render.
