How does DarkGDK connect without supplying an IP address? Mind being a bit more specific?

Truthfully the built in multiplayer functionality in DarkGDK (and DarkBasic) is pretty sub par. After getting to grips with them I suggest moving on to learning basic socket networking via winsock or berkley sockets. Everything you need to know to get started can be found here.

The other options that are thrown around here often I believe is multisync and mikenet.
