I haven't been involved in game programming and 3D graphics in a long time and am now getting back into it and would like to know from some of you if FPSC can do a few things.

I am thinking about re-creating a very old 1980's RPG and would like to know if FPSC has

1. A leveling system for characters? Can you level up the characters after they get to a certain amount of experience points?

2. Can a money or gold accumulation system be implemented?

3. Is there a way to implement a backpack or inventory system?

4. Is there a way to sell these items that you collect?

5. is there a way to level up enemies as you level up?

6. Is there a way to create a party?

7. Is there a way to do a create character system?

If this can be done in FPSC that should keep me busy for a while. I am really thinking DBP would be the better choice for this project BUT, I can use FPSC to create my levels, (towns and dungeons). If I remember right I think there is even a way to drop those levels from FPSC into DBP.

Thanks

A lot of the above has already been acheived (I think) but most of it is done with the use of 'Mods'.
There are a lot of 'Mod' threads in this very same section of the Forum (FPSC Chat) which I think you should take a look at for more information about your qustions.

Yes, levels from FPSC can be imported into Dark Basic.

I hope this helps and good luck with your choice.

Hello Dragon Slayer,

I can show you a sneak peak of the inventory system I have been working on for one of our game developments. It utilizes a backpack, and also uses RPG mod with FPSC.

If you would like to know more about RPG mod, you can check out the mod's information here:

RPG Mod

Well like I said I have been out of this for a long time. I didn't realize that FPSC had been modded so much. Are these mods stand alone or are they incorporated into FPSC? I don't really want to have to keep reinstalling and patching FPSC every time I tryout a mod.

I just checked out your RPG mod briefly. Looks pretty cool and does some of the things I want to do. Quite a bit really but does it have anything for character creation? I didn't see anything on that or leveling up characters or a biggie that I left out, a magic system?

Once I get a good handle on programming with DBP it may be fun to mod FPSC myself the way I want it but I guess that is opening a whole completely different can of worms LOL!

Mods contain the code to FPSC as well as additional commands the author's put in them, then that is compiled into the FPSC-Game.exe file. The only thing with a mod is that you copy the file "FPSC-Game.exe" over to your FPS Creator to utilize that mod's code. Some mods have extra files that also are required to be copied over. You have to be aware that some mods only use a certain version of FPSC. For example, if you use Fenix mod, you will need to have at least FPSC v1.16 installed. Most authors make it a point to keep users informed.

That is something that is being looked at. Trying to design a few ideas on this to see if it will actually be feasible.

yes. this can be done with HUDS and certian scripts to give the player extra privelages when leveled. I would use project blue mod.

Quote: "2. Can a money or gold accumulation system be implemented?"

yes. fenix mod can do it quite easily.

Quote: "3. Is there a way to implement a backpack or inventory system?"

yes. using huds and scripting, preferably of the project blue variety.

Quote: "4. Is there a way to sell these items that you collect?"
yes. once again, fenix mod or project blue mod

Quote: "5. is there a way to level up enemies as you level up?"

well, you can make enemies more and more powerful the more you level up, if that's what you're asking.

Quote: "6. Is there a way to create a party?"

like mmorpg WoW parties? or clans in online games? nope, sorry.

Quote: "7. Is there a way to do a create character system?"

technically yes, but it would be one of the most scripting-rich and media-rich projects that could be done.

all in all, buy project blue mod for the most scripting freedom to do all of this, or you can get fenix mod for free, but with less commands it's not going to be quite as extensive as project blue.
