I am wondering if we will be able to use company names in our commerical FPSC games. Such as coke, or Heckler & Koch. I am sure that you need to request permission, but I am wondering if there is anything else needed.

You just need permission. However, permission is not always free. If you really want permission, expect a very high price.

I'd be suprised if a company charged to have their logos used in a game. After all, it's just free advertising for them.

Why get your brand advirtised for free, when you can charge the same person for getting free advirtisment?

If it was that simple things would be OK, but in the real world things are never simple. Most companies will take a very aggressive stance on using their products logos without permission. Why? Lets say you make a game/movie/etc where the main character goes around with a, "Pepsi," in his hand while shooting at women, kids. etc. Do you think Pepsi would want to be linked to that? That is why most games use generic names such as Cola, Pop etc. You could apply it to anything. Negative associations with a name brand product are things that companies do all they can to prevent.

You certainly do need permission which in many case will not be given even if you can pay for it.

Many companies - Famous name well known brands or not have a reputation to safeguard and do so. They do not have concern for payment, they have concern over associating themselves with anyone or anything that may pose the slightest risk to them attracting to themselves bad publicity which can cost them dearly financially or even ruin them completely as quick as you can say...well you're ruined.

It is the case, especially with regarding to Famous Name companies that they are very particular as to how and where there logos and intellectual property is displayed. More often than not they will allow only other companies of some serious size, influence and standing to associate themselves with their brands and not individuals or companies who are not of that nature.

There are due to the nature of the internet many more who will allow association or affiliates to display their brand, however it is at their discretion and only following submission of your proposal for review and assessment before they will or will not grant such permission.

If you do not have permission then you should not take it upon yourself to include materials in your games which fall under copyright or intellectual copyright laws.

If I or other Mods see such used in games and displayed at these forums we may take action to remove at our discretion the references, postings or posters that associate TGC and these forums with such illegal activities.

Well pretty much, all I want to do is be able to name guns by their full names in my game. Such as Winchester, Smith & Wesson, Remmington, and other well respected companies.
