Hey guys. I am asking on behalf of the calibre team whether there are any voice actors out there who will be able to do a small amount of recording for us. We are just working on the tutorial level at the moment and full singleplayer may be added at a later point (multiplayer game).

The type of acting we would like is someone who is able to do a voice of a soldier in a barracks. We may need multiple voices for this so there may be more then one place available.

Ideally we are looking for any voice actors who will do this for free. Alternatively this could be an opportunity for those people who would like to try and gain experience for voice acting. As an absolute last resort we may be able to pay anyone who takes the job a small amount of money for their services.

The script is still being finalised but there will be between 20 and 30 pieces of text, some ranging from 1 line and others to possibly a paragraph or two.

If you guys could get back to us on this matter as soon as possible that would be great,

Thanks,

Arenas

For evidence of progress, here is a screen taken from the level which the script has been written for:

EDIT: A copy of the current Tutorial Level Script is now available for browsing in this post. It is attached to this post. If you are interested in recording a part, just post the recordings in your reply to this thread. We will use a variety of the donated recordings and make a list of everyone who has helped and everyone whos final recording is in the finished level. We may include a few segments and entities for all those who have donated (still just an idea at this stage). If you would like to receive this small pack please include an email address which we can send the package to.

Level Name: Tutorial
Characters; Sergeant Jackson, Sergeant Nelson, Technician, Radio Presenter, Lieutenant Kennedy

Level Script:

For All those who would like to try a part, choose your part and email me the files when done. It would be greatly appreciated. My email is attached in the code below:

Its still in the progress of being written. The lines should be ready in the next day or two. Possibly even by the end of tonight. You are able to do a soldiers voice?

I would like to add on a completely unrelated note, one of the names of the characters is Sergeant Jackson

His voice doesnt sound old enough for what we're looking for. I was hoping for a slightly rougher army personnel voice.

EDIT

@General Jackson

I have emailed you the script. There are four parts (2 large and 2 small). If you could tell me which you think you could do asap that would be great.

I got it

One thing, my Microphone will have some unwanted background sound ( it is just a simple built in thing, nothing fancy ) and also you will have to add the static effects - I dont do too much with sound so i dont know how.

Also send me some screens of your project - I am liking the script and if I like the screens I might just send you guys a Gun Mod Kit License

Were pretty secure as far as weapons go Were reanimating all weapons and characters for better effect,but were having problems getting people to do this (we may have someone ready to start soon). I'll send you a few screens anyway. We'll find out how to add in radio over the top of it, don't worry if you cant do it then

If you are interested in it we can give you a permanent part in the script. The game has taken months to reach this stage and will take around another year to complete (speed will enhance massively once I have finished my GCSE exams).

All huds are custom made (and hopefully soon so will all weapons and most entities), we had these huds before Alpha Project has it WIP. We just kept them because it had taken us ages to decide on the look of them (not saying that lewis has copied us, its just a coincidence).

KK Jackson They will complete the first half of the first level

Here you go. Theres more background terror than I thought there would be, so it needs some cleaning out (audacity should do the trick ).

Lemme know if I forgot anything.

You missed out Voice Clip 20 and 21. Could you re-record Voice Clip 12? There was a stutter, I dont mind if you modify the script a bit, just want it to sound more fluent with this clip

I guess your not doing the voice acting for the radio presenter then? We can find someone else for that job.

Could you email me the files next time and remove them from your thread so that they are kept a bit more secure and so people dont have access to them

Thanks for the great recordings otherwise I am going to put them straight into the game when i get up tomorrow. I think, because i have a deeper voice then you and K RIO, im going to try the russian parts for the next few scripts. Perhaps me and maxi will do the odd voice so that they dont all sound the same

Sergeant Jackson and Sergeant Nelson sounded similar in this but this can be easily fixed in an audio editor.

Do you guys have any ideas on good audio editing programs?

Thanks again for the great work GJ

General Jackson has already recorded them all but one part. If you want to you could actually take one of the parts he recorded and replace it so that we have more variety in the voices for the characters I'm emailing you the script now. Infact... Im attaching the script to the first post. You guys can post the downloads in your replies now, im not too bothered about plagiarism if the script is already up, people will know that we were the original owners.

Im just opening it up to the entire forum As you were the first person to accept the job, if we get lots of donations which fill up the characters, you can choose the character you want to have as your voice. Later this year the script for the game will be comming out. Before then we will have a mini audition for the parts in it. General Jackson, you will be almost guaranteed a reserved spot

General Jackson, have you managed to re-record those pieces yet?

Pain, if you would like you could record the new character who is in the addon for this level

EDIT: I am going to be emailing various people about parts in the script. The script is now attached to the first post in the form of code.

That demo was really good. Would it be possible for you to record the part of Sergeant Jackson? Could you email it to me using the email adress attached in the second code snippet if you can record these parts. If you are happy with possibly being kept on for use further on in the story it would be much appreciated. If you are happy with it could you include your msn in the email with the the voice clips?

Thanks, I hope you are able to play one of the major characters.

@WWIV Studios

Files downloaded Ive had a listen and the material appears to be good

When I have received a copy of the tutorial level from Maxi in a few weeks, up to one or two months, then i will be able to include a list of all the people who have managed to have their recordings used in the tutorial.

@Arenas I do not have MSN but i do have skype and yahoo

Here they are.

Thankyou.

I would be honored to play Sgt. Jackson-- i have to work often, but i do have time near the end of the day.

I can Definately Do Sgt. Jackson.

But You may want to change a few lines from the first few scripts.

its a little modern warfare-ish

But i can definitely do his role for you. Although i a ma proud american. i can Flawlessly mimic a russian accent, And an English Accent

also if you would like to hear a cinematic intro i have done for a past project i never completed there is a file attached to this post.

@WWIV Studios

I like the harshness you have added I'll split up the file and implement it once I get a copy of the final tutorial map.
Thanks.

@Armageddon Games

The idea was to start of the game similar to that of modern-warfare, because its well known and is a very good way of instructing people on how the controls work. The game will become incredibly different from modern-warfare whoever, don't worry

This project will take a very long time to complete so you wont have the full script given at once, you will be given snippets of the script to record which we will then implement into the game. The project seems as if it will take around a year or so to complete with the new secret engine being written for multiplayer as well as the customisation of the levels and weapons from scratch with special animations. I am very glad to have now found a permanent member of the voice acting team! Depending upon how stretched we are you may possibly be given a few characters, although they would be minor as you have the position of Sergeant Jackson. I can do a flawless Russian accent (its the only accent other then Irish and American - which I can sorta do - I am happy with ) and a flawless English accent (cause I am English ).

I don't suppose you think that you would be able to make music for a menu, two splash-screens and credits do you? If you want I can send you a copy of the program to date for you to get a feel of the music required.

Anyway, your stuff sounds very promising, I look forward to working with you. Your name will be going in the credits shortly as well as on the website which is still under construction.

Its What I do man, but i will need a description of the music needed.
The program is not necessary but i would like to take a look at it, and I appreciate the position you gave me! thank you

Quote: "American - which I can sorta do"

Im American with a southern tinge to it.

So if you need me to voice the americans i can vary my voice to sound like different people.

It's probably to late but I would like to apply.

I'm male, I can do as much contex as needed, I am good for characters that are yound up to about age 20. I'll do it for free but I would enjoy credit. Could you fit me in? I'm good at pretending I'm hurt, in trouble, or really any abnormal state the character would be in. My big rule: I SAY NO SWEAR WORDS. I would really like to not say words that are not nice but not swears. I will if needed, such as crap, screw, etc.

Would it be possible for you to record and email me a copy of Sgt. Jackson as soon as possible? Thanks.

@Cormorant5

Could you record Sergeant Nelson: and send a copy to me? We have not finalised the level yet and wont finalise if for a few months so we can have as many people to record the parts as possible. The we are planning on picking the best parts to place in the level and possible give them a place as a major character.

Thanks. Anyone else who would like to have a go at voice acting is more then welcome. This voice acting is becoming similar to an audition for future parts. I hope that we will be able to cover all of the major parts which we would like to have actors for by the end of the next few months.

How many parts are there? There seems to be plenty of people looking for parts.

(Also, I'll record the voice of Nelson, but I might be better for Jackson because he's younger. Like I said in my mini resume I'm not as old as most users of the TGC forum.

You can select any part you would like to do. Record that part and then send it to me in email or in download on this thread. When it comes to adding sound into the level, we will select the best recordings and use them. From the recordings we have we will also select the best actors and offer them the parts of characters within the story.

@ALL

Hey guys. I would like to say that all talk on voice acting will be stopped on this thread now. What will happen, is that I will make a new thread dedicated to voice acting in calibre, and then any jobs we would like to have recorded can be posted there and people can have a try. At the moment this thread is restricted to the Tutorial Level. The new thread will be for any form of acting (multiplayer and singleplayer). The new thread will be up in about a months time (once more progress has been made on the game).

@BeauPratten
You may be able to get a part once the new thread has come out. The entire story line will have been finalised by then so you can see what is available throughout the game.

@Kind Moderators
Would you be able to lock this thread now indefinitely. Thanks

As an update I would like to say that Calibre is still in the works. We are now creating our own engine, but will hopefully still be using the FPSC map editor to create the maps. Because it will still partially be an FPSC game we will post updates on these forum boards.

Hopefully we will also have a demo ready for the convention being held by Knxrb. Until then I suspect there may be one more thread asking for voice overs (for victories and defeats) in the multiplayer and possibly in the menu.
