Included is some registry code I worked on this morning. Only problem is, it doesn't work. Using regedit, I cannot find the entrys it's supposedley creating...

Do the registry commands work?

First of all, can you sort out your signature/avatar - that log-on screen is getting very annoying. Plus, non-observant people may think its something to do with DBPro.

Secondly, I think you have add the HKEY_LOCAL bit to the folder name before it will work.

Signature/Avatar issue sorted out. Sorry about that.

I don't have an "HKEY_LOCAL" group in my registry, I have an "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"... Under which is "SOFTWARE", under which is a bunch of groups created by the applications I've installed... I think I need my new group to end up here too...

So far I have tried:

"\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ChillyGroup"
"\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ChillyGroup"

and

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ChillyGroup"

Any ideas? Does someone here have a working code sample anywhere?

I did mean HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by the way - but even with that added I cant get it to work - I dont have any example code as I'm an anti-registrian...

Damn, I have need nothing but people saying this feature doesn't work... Kind of a bummer for a bullet feature listed on the box....

Is it really true that the registry commands just don't work? I'm sure they do, their is just some stupid requirement not documented very well...

If these registry commands truly don't work, I guess I can write a DLL that can write and read registry entries... But I wan't to know for SURE that I can't do it in DB before I do that...

Strange ... works for me



It puts the data into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and also don't forget that you cannot write data to the highest level of the registry.

Make sure you have administrative access on your machine if you're writing to HKLM.

First, thank you for posting that source. I think I can blame this one (once again) on a lack of good documentation.

I tried a number of combinations, but according to the docs (and even the USAGE example), my code should have worked. Oh well. One more DB gotcha.

It was the absence of SOFTWARE\ that causes the problems - I knew something needed to be added, but I didn't know what.
