Latest Screens :

Lol, Hey all. A mini Wip For you guys - a Revamp of an old Top Down Shooter I made in DBC, Redone in Pro. The instructions are in the Readme that is included in the zip.

The Project is unnamed.

Heres so far:

Collision : (70%) done; need sliding collision...Improved a bit......

Projectiles : (90%) done, Tweaking some stuff

Maps : (30%) -working on-

Sprites/Graphics : (20%) - Im using temps for this demo.

AI - (70% - 75%) : Movement/shooting/Pathfinding Implemented, need to polish, But Bots now make desisions based on their combat situations(What gun to pull out, etc.)

Controls - (65%) : Planned and Worked, Need to inplement custom button maps. I plan for use of joy2key to allow multiple joypads. Camera is Awsome, in my opinion.

Multiplayer : (0%) um......maybe?

Particles and Explosions count in projectiles.

Theres a lot behind the scenes(coded, but not shown in this Demo) that you wont get to see. You'll need a Joypad to Test! Screenies will be uploaded......

PLease test and tell me what you think. Remember, This test only shows what I have completed, Full proof. Theres a lot more, but its Kinnda....craped up right now.

EDIT
Update : April 09,2010 : Version 0.1 updated and attached to post.

Update : April 10,2010 : Version 0.15 updated and attached to post.

Theres A lot of new stuff in the LATEST VERSION above.

Enjoy!

dunno it just freezes, might be my computer. its really old and my graphic card sucks . 1gb ram 128mb ati radeon 9250, and a pentium 4 2.26 ghz single core (yes it still exists) the music starts playing but then its starts slowing down and i can play like for 2 seconds before it freezes. lol the pic shows the halo rocket launcher in my game :p

EDIT: restarted my pc and it works now, Although i cant get controls to work. i plugged in my controller then launched the game but cant figure it out :p it looks entretaining though!

What type do you have? you'll need at least 6 buttons + a d-pad.
If it has anolog, turn it off and it should work.

I like the camera movement. Player movement should be made analog, so you don't only have 4 directions. If you hold down the reload button, the reload sound keeps being played repeatedly. The rocket comes out of thin air on the opposite side than the gun when launching. I also find it weird that the player can stick half way into the walls.

Otherwise cool game, I see potential for a cool network shoot em up here!

Thats the plan.

Thanks, Worked forever to get it scrolling like that.

*Fixed* I was telling it to look for the wrong button to see if it should stop playing......lol.

That Idea crossed my mind, but then i had troble using maths to correctly rotate and move the sprite. but I think i'll try newx/yvalue.

I'll have to look into these two. They worked correctly before.........?

@ Else
Update at Top, I've patched up and enabled some features:

Pathfinding - DONE!!!!!(Its set up to goto a random tile tho, I still have to do logic when I set up stuff like teams, so that the bots can fight against and alongside you..... )

Camera - DONE! Now Shakes when a rocket hits a wall or enemy

Health - !! Now Switched on for enemies + Render for player. Thought I'd switched it on before.......

Force Feedback - Fire the Machine Gun.

New Weapon - I call it the Rocket Machine Gun. Try it.....

Loads of other stuff! - I'm working and making quite a bit of progress on many of those other features I promised

Hmmmmm...Your example doesnt work for me.....You know, I Think the reason Its not working is because my JoyPad uses Hats. I(and you) was tring to use Joystick X() and Y().............

Thanks for the help, tho.

@Else
The AI is really starting to pick up. I'll have 'Bots' that think for themselves what to do, based on their combat situation with others, in no time. Right now they are intelligent enough to select appropriate weapons based on the distance of their target.

Expect a demo of that in action too.

UPDATE.

All right! Got the AI functioning based on their "desires". in other words, they sort of think! Really need to flesh it out a bit, but I've done enough for a release.

Enjoy. i'll Update the Top post with other Changes.

First time I tried this I thought it was completely broken. Turns out it doesn't like 360 controller. Same with my old game that uses joypad. You may wish to experiment and provide 360 support, since the controllers are quite popular.

Tried with old controller. Works. I quite like the aesthetic, although it is rough. Rocket weapons have a cool feel and I like how the screen shakes with explosions. Nice sounds.

It's odd how your guy only points up/down/left/right though. I am using analog control, but even with a d-pad, you want to be able to use diagonals.

Even better to use twin thumb sticks, so you can run with one stick, aim with the other. Then strafe button is not needed. You have one trigger for shoot, another for reload.

Anyway this could do with some work but what you have is pretty cool.

This has come up quite a few times, and i'm on it. The only thing is, hat controllers give me hell.................but i'll get it eventually!
