This is something I've been working on for a while (off and on) in between other projects! Now I have purchased the bonanza pack it gives me the rest of what I needed to continue!!

Here is the first demo!! [EDIT: Updated 5th May 2010!!]
https://forumfiles.thegamecreators.com/download/2007643
It's early days but I hope it gives a feel of the game I'm trying to make!

HINT: Don't go into the 'Waiting Room' unless you want to quit. I haven't finished that part yet!

It's going to be a first person puzzle/thriller game designed to keep you watching your back while you try to solve the puzzles.

You find yourself in a desolate/quite surreal place with a sign outside that just says "Waystation". All you know is that there are places you can't get to and notes pinned up around the place that seem to point you in the right direction, but who or what is leaving these notes and where are they leading you?

As you work your way further into the building there will be many surprises in store. Hopefully this one will keep you guessing and make you jump!!

Progress:
World approximately 33% complete (I think!)
Main engine working nicely including doors opening/closing/locking/unlocking...
Shaders applied but not necessary (game is designed to look good without shaders and work equally well!)
Story about 50% written...
First puzzle worked out but not yet implimented...

Looks pretty interesting so far, I am curious, what shader are you using for your screenshots that you posted? (I have been out of the shader scene for awhile)

Thanks, it looks pretty good without the shader too and I'm still trying to decide on the final look...

It's the Watercolour shader that comes with DarkShader.

Nice graphics, baxslash! Looking good so far. That watercolour shader adds something weird and spooky about it. Also, the idea of having to watch your back while solving puzzles, sounds very interesting and freeky. I like the sound of it.
I was wondering though, is the waystation the only place we'll be able to visit? And by thriller, do you mean just suspense, or is there interaction with some stalking creepy monsters?

Anyways, I'm watching this...

Keep it coming!

Yes the Waystation is the whole game, but it should be enough I think.

Yes suspense and as for stalking creepy monsters, you'll have to wait and see...

Could not load image at line 475.

Edit: Shadow02.png and shadow04.png are missing. Added those files to the textures folder and the game loaded properly.

@baxslash:
Would love to play it, but got the error: 'Could not load image at line 475'. The name of the image is Shadow02.png.
Can you fix that so we can shiver?

Cheers

Hey, I just played through the WIP, and it looks really good! My kind of game! I actually started writing something similar once(first person horror/thriller adventure taking place inside an apartment), but never got anywhere with it.

Anyway, if you need some graphics, I might be able to help out, just ask.

(You can see some of my stuff at http://guyra.deviantart.com/ )

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

...sorry to hear that @pictionaryjr, could you post the exact error it would really help?

The game checks your current desktop display settings and sets the game to them so this shouldn't happen...

EDIT:I think I've found the solution here. I need to re-compile though. It seems that I had the fullscreen resolution set too high in the default settings. I'll have to post a fixed version soon as the project is not ready for release as it stands... I'll re-post with this fixed ASAP (maybe with a working flashlight by then too and some extra scares...)

I've just updated the Demo in the first post that should fix the 32 bit display error (the problem was the display size not the depth).

I still haven't quite got the flashlight working yet I think I'm going to have to re-export my model again to resolve the issue, but that does mean I could add in bump mapping which would further improve the look of the game!

Anyway, I've a lot of modelling and programming to do yet so please just let me know if you're having any problems with this version!

Honestly I haven't touched it for a while but I have been meaning to. The problem is I'm too excited by some other projects at the moment including my skybox/skysphere maker "EnviroSCOPE" (click my signature to take a look) which is a free tool for gamemakers I'm about 85% finished with!

It does space or terrain scenes and you can use your own images, textures and objects to make pretty much any kind of background you can think of for your game! It uses DarkCLOUDS for the skies and I'm really pleased with it so if you get a chance please check it out!!

Already have, looks great. Though I, for my part, am much more interested in this project.
