My school has a ZPrinter 650. I got to print a couple of my models. Check 'em out.

I plan to add reflective material to the windows and touch up paint for battle scarring.

Below is my friend David and me during the curing process. The cyanoacrilate is SUPER toxic!

The Mewtwo model had a misprint on the head where the motor caused a shift.

That's super awesome! The models turned out nice besides the unfortunate misprint on Mewtwo's head. Some pretty good model painting too!

I saw on PopSci not long ago that a company came out with a fairly reasonably priced 3D Printer for commercial use. $15,000(? Don't quite remember) is a little out of my price range, but maybe some day they will make them for home use.

My green thumb grew the tree my Trojan War horse was crafted from. With roses in our pockets we rally round the tombstones. Ashes to ashes, we all fall down.

Theres one called...erm oh I can't remember...well it's open source, comes in a kit and costs about $950 if I rememebr correctly. Its quite limited in model size though. They say they're making a bigger one soon though. Who would say no to a "make anything machine"?

Our is a tad more expensive... $75,000 with $10,000 a year maintenance. But totally worth it, we get so much exposure every time we print something new. And since we got it up and running, we've had pretty much double the amount of students per new class.

It is fully contained, meaning no messy reclaiming of the powder, it does it mostly by itself. It also prints in full color. When we got it, we were the second to buy the particular model.

That's really awesome! How heavy is it; compared to the original toy (which I had as a kid)?

Glad to! Might post pictures of the other models we have printed. If I can bring in a good camera. We have Master Chief, a demon chick, a robot chick, a monkey, a character from Hellboy we just printed today, a mgs character printing right now, a two-headed monkey and a whale. All built by various teachers or students.

It's neat that they print in full color. About how long does it take to print a model? Does complexity factor in on the amount of time? I noticed that the X-Wing was printed in separate parts- Did the printer print them all at the sames time, or did you have to do a separate task for each one?

Sorry :p It's not my printer. All models printed stay at the school. The only reason I get to keep mine is because I won an award for graduating top of my class.

The XWing took about 6 hours to print, and left it overnight to dry. It can do very complex objects. I printed those pieces seperately in case it messed up, I'd have the replacement pieces.

A better way to describe it is like a statue. The material is a very thin powder/sand substance that is layered at 1/3 of a millimeter thick.
