If you were to compare FPSC's graphics, ease of use, performance, and general "style" of gameplay (mods included) to any other engine on the market today, commercial or indie, which would it be and why?

I'd say lithitech, the precice one used to make FEAR. maps are a bit bigger and higher quality, but the level detail itself and lighting, and general gameplay style could be comparable to FPSC the most. second is source, and I think source is a little too "smooth" for FPSC.

FPS Creator is alright compared to todays standards, it's not nearly impressive as Source or anything like that. With many end-user mods, it's gotten far beyond the capabilities it was meant for, which is great.

Temporarly away from the Phoenix Sentry.

Right now I would say FPSC is like a very advanced Quake3 engine.

When V1.17 is released it will be more comparable to something like Doom3 due to the advanced shaders and generalised normal / specular mapping across everything on there.

Doom3 like FPSC is designed for indoor environments with limited outdoor scenes and focuses on action rather than role playing and other gameplay styles.

One thing which stands out in Doom3 even today is its unified lighting and shadows. If we could get better quality dynamic shadows with support for animated entities and characters in FPSC it would make a huge improvement to the already high quality static shadow mapping.

Agreed with Nomad Soul...

One final touch... It's programmed in DBPRO... Doom3 in C.

Everything needs a base of proof. But you must believe to accomplish it. Wich is one hell of a paradox.

As a stand-alone game engine I would say FPSC is without comparison for its ease of use. FPS-in-minute development can't be done that easy anywhere else - if anywhere at all actually.

Some newer games with modding capabilities also have very easy to use tools but with these games you need players to have the original game to run your creation.
