I recently obtained patch 5 (or whatever the newest is). When I then tried to run my programs nothing happened.

My computer thought it was running them, but actually it was just showing the desktop.

I was using no patches before (installed straight off the CD).

Is this DirectX related?

Dont think so, try re-starting your computer, if not why not try re installing patch 5.

yes from patch 5 dbp requires directx 9

How can I find out what version of DirectX I have, and where can I download DirectX 9?

Run DXDiag and run all the DX tests first. See if thats okay first, and then check your code to see if your using an invalid screen resolution.

i had the same problem, it does it when you upgrade the ide. try ctrl+alt+del you should find your program running in the background, and sucking up your cpu resources. everytime you try to compile your program, a new instance of it will be created, it'll slow your pc down dramatically.

try totally uninstalling dbp,
then install it off the cd,
then install patch 5.1
then install the first ide update,
then install the second ide update.

^^ that worked for me anywho.
