Not sure if this has been covered in another topic( haven't seen it if it has, and i did search.....)

A few questions...( new here, but not to modeling, or game creation)

1.I see where someone created a blender script that exports better to .x. Can I use this to create/modify media with 2.5.2 alpha of Blender? What can a .x file hold , meaning can I use a detail texture and a normal map texture?

2.Is there a per level max polygon count?I've found a method of using MakeHuman created models ...( decimate in Blender, has to be the best decimate tool i've seen yet, open in wings3d,create texture, modify for clothing/armor/etc.)Per level texture count?( I tend to use a csg modeler to create buildings with....)

3. Pertaining to the csg modeler I love using, it exports as a .3ds, with a number of textures used for walls, floors, etc.How can I make a prefab this way?( I know I'll have to convert it to .x) Or do I use another method?

I plan on creating a RPG with FPSC, based on my own Ideas, using retextured stock media, a lot of my own media ....But for now, I'm trying to get a " handle" on how everything works here. Thanks for any replies!

I think I can answer the first question:

I believe that the script created, least the one I know of, works on 2.4.9 (which is the one i use), but I couldn't get it to work on 2.5.2

I'm not an expert, really i dont know much about the blender scripting, but I think the 2.5 versions of blender use some different keywords and/or syntax for their scripting than the 2.4 version. Don't quote me, its just what I an guessing.

You got it right....it uses a different syntax, one that's simpler to understand.....they're doin it that way in order to address Blender's fugly interface....guess i'll use 2.4.9 to decimate/convert models then.

Im not sure if you want to shell out, but i found this to be very helpful.

http://www.sequoiagames.com/fpsc-toolbox

Bought this about 2 weeks ago, i havent had as much time as i would want to really test it, but it is very very useful for importing. Especially since it short lists everything you need for it to work. All that you need is the .x file after that you use drop down and broswe menus to apply scripts, textures, properties and animation lists. It runs on a stable GUI and you'll know if youv got problems with the .x since itll crash on export. Not the best time to find out i know but it saves hassel of fpsc crashing. The 3d viewport is a nice indicator and shoed the model scaled. you can also reposition, scale and rotate the model inside this port for final tweaking. So far ive used the character and entity parts, the segment and weapon are a mystery but ive heard only good things from them.

jesus i sound like a salesman lol.

Bullstock is a trusted member so thiers no worries, search the fpsc forums for it. You can buy each of the four programs seperately or buy the bundle for $10 less and thier all incorporated into one.

Im on a whim right now so,, ehh
