I started receiving various emails today apparently from Microsoft
containing "Last Microsoft Critical Pack" with attached EXEs. I'm
assuming this is a new virus/worm? Couldn't find anything on the
Symantec site about it though in their latest virus section - unless
it's an old one? and their latest updated definitions doesn't detect
it either. Interesting.

Cheers,

Rich

the email went straight in my trash bin

Oy, not another worm...

Looks like my Norton patches are up to date, so if they didnt make a virus definition for it yet, I hope they do soon, I dont want that on my machine.

Yes, got around 20 for my home address and more or less the same amount for work - all the e-mail addresses seem to be spoofed - one said it was from Nildram's (for those who dont know, its an ISP) e-mail server...

'use a email client that dont include a preview pane'

It's easy to disable the preview pane.

This worm spreads via e-mails claiming to be from Microsoft and to provide a new security patch

It looks very authentic to the innocent web user. I know my parents would probably fall for it, along with thousands of others.

3 big giveaways:
It's not from a Microsoft mail server
It's marked up as being a patch for every Windows OS, which would never happen.
Microsoft don't send patches!!

All I can say is:

Life imprisonment to these little virus/hacker low life bastards. Lock 'em up in a cell with a big guy called sue and throw away the key. String 'em up by their private parts. Force them to drink yak's urine. Force them to listen to elevator music. Force them to watch the Paramount channel. Force them to...

I've said enough

I don't think anybody deserves that much punishment.
I've been getting a virus from some mexican girl (who isn't smart enough to hide her e-mail address, presumeing she really is a girl ) and am planning to send her one of my own. (As a thank-you note )

Unfortunately the Patriot Act made it so, I fail to see the justice of sending a 15 yr old to prison for life for hacking a web page, when Someone can kill a man and not even get jail time.

lol sue ... thats amusing
arrow thats really the kicker isn't it, in the UK you shoot someone your charged on like 10different counts - and even then you only get something like 3years.

something i've always wondered is does the UK have parol, i don't think i've ever heard of it there.

and cyberfreak if you have a junkmail blocker on your msn or hotmail account you won't get them - they trash anything pretending to be from microsoft.
ya know personally i think people who shoot people should goto jail, but instead of right away ... someone should shoot them - see how they like it then release them under house arrest so they can know how bad it is to walk around not being able to get around properly.

ya know kinda like let the punishment fit the crime kinda thing.
if they die from being shot - then thats really a risk that is taken.

you shoot someone in this country you get life (25 years), but the judges are really soft, so it's like 10 years now and you get released in 6 if you are good in prison.

Quote: "something i've always wondered is does the UK have parol, i don't think i've ever heard of it there."

you get a parol board. the recent case where the parol board was used. was the farmer that shot the kid on his land. since the farmer refused to apollogise, they refused to let him out!

Quote: "and cyberfreak if you have a junkmail blocker on your msn or hotmail account you won't get them - they trash anything pretending to be from microsoft."

you can setup your hotmail account to not receieve attachments. or dont allow messages from people who's not in your address book.

personally i think, if you shoot someone, you should die a slow painful death. people who use guns are technically wimps who cant fight and want the easy way of hurting someone.

Quote: "ya know kinda like let the punishment fit the crime kinda thing.

i wish shooting at dawn was reintroduced in the uk, so if you get arrested and proved guilty, the person should be shot at dawn the next day.

the uk really has gone soft on crime, the police dont have the power anymore. it's the criminals that get the upper hand.

to get ahead in this country, you need to be crooked. because some of the honest people dont get anywhere in life.

Hopefully not. Even one single innocent person that is executed would be a too high price. (Every country with death penalty has countless cases where innocent people were executed (their innocence was proven after they'd died).

That's true, like in many other countries. But that won't change with the re-introduction of shooting at dawn.

I awoke in a fever. The bedclothes were all soaked in sweat.

In South Dakota, our senater killed a man when he drove through a stop sign going over 20 mph over the speed limit. There is a great deal of talk if he'll even have to serve time. I think is a sad day when a corrupt bastard like Janklow can literally get away with murder. He's playing every angles he can too; he's busy (who isn't?), he was on the job (lier, it was around 11 PM), he is brain dammaged because of the accident (I think he was before). If he gets off, I'm moving to Canada, at least there I can get free healthcare.

I've 50 of these 'Microsoft' ones over the last 3 days - obviously someone is stupid enough to run the program (or doesn't have an antivirus program installed).

I've more or less blocked all combinations of subjects now - the real pains are the ones without.
