Does anyone here purchase media from TurboSquid for use in commercial games?

Please don't start flameing about lisences, I am fully aware of licenses and read them very carefully and contact product "owners" if any doubt.(I have seen other threads locked discussing this matter.)

And please don't start saying I would be wasting my money, money used for any and all projects I engulf myself into comes out of my DBA account(s), so they are all write offs for me at the end of the year. (which, if you are in the U.S I suggest getting a DBA, the DBA itself and a PO Box under the DBA shouldn't cost you more than 50 bucks together and a basic DBA bank account is usually no fee if minimum balance is kept at 100 bucks)

Sorry for the maybe un necassry details, but I felt it necessary in an attempt to keep this thread constructive.

What I would like to know is do any of you that use TurboSquid for media, have any artists that sell there that you prefer to buy from and why?

What file specs should I be looking at when considering purchasing media for use in FPSC? (I know, low poly counts right? But what is an exceptable range)

Any other suggested market places would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't purchase any media from there, no. But, I am in the process of the setting up an artist account there.

Doesn't really matter, as long as you have something to convert the mesh file into a .x file for FPS Creator. For the prices they're asking on Turbosquid, I'd recommend sticking to the models that have already been mapped and include their texture file.

Depends, really. Personally, I try to keep static models between 0-2,000 polys; depending on the detail, and how noticable it will be to the player. I think bond1 has set a good poly budget for characters at around 4-5k. Weapons, I would try to keep under 3k.

I'm always available for freelance work, and I don't charge an arm and a leg either. Modeling, mapping, texturing; I'll even send the models to ya already compatible with FPSC. Email's in my profile.

I tried to persuade the mods to get a sticky up that showed all of the artists in this community available for freelance work, but it was a no go.

Yeah; I'm pretty sure I started a thread asking people's opinions about that a long while back, and was met with some pretty stiff resistance...so I abandoned the idea.

Do realize, that if you decided to sell on Turbosquid...that they take 60% of your money for each sale now. Check this thread out for more information on the "SquidGuild" and those non-guilders that pay for it: http://www.3dstocktalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60

Additionally, Game media doesn't tend to do well on these sites in the first place; but if you're going to put your work up, put it up on a site that doesn't take an insane cut in your profit...such as www.the3dstudio.com

I would be willing to create a category on PCgameDROPS for freelancers to show off their work. If I have a wide enough response or even one 3d model artist that would be willing to head up requests for game assets. This artist could outsource the requested assets if needed.
