What am I being punished for this time?

"Runtime error 1511: Display cannot be created due to invalid function parameters at line 0"

win98se
directx 9.0b
geforce 4 ti 4200 - nvidia 45.23
amd 1200

Does anyone recognize this error?

Are you trying to use an invalid screen mode or 24-bit mode ?

Is 24-bit mode invalid?

A random guess Mr. Irving, reinstall the drivers that came with your card to see if things improve.

Yes it is - it was originally used with the Voodoo, and is no longer a supported mode.

The voodoo? That was 16 bit only.

It was the early cards that supported 16m colours that used 24 bit to save costs as it only uses 3/4th of the memory that 32 bit does.

It was also before the real benefits of using alpha values was really appreciated

I get the same error in with 16 and 32 bit settings in the display control panel. I'll check out the driver. I didn't have this issue when upgrade 5 first came out. this is a re-install over a clean windows install.

Voodoo 3 was capable of using 24-bit mode, if I remember correctly - no idea about 1 & 2 though...
