I have not seen an answer to this question so I thought I'd raise it. Seems a big market for FPS created games would be these console platforms, is there any work being done to port FPS to these? Has anyone thought of recompiling FPS with darkbasic to achieve this?

This question has brought up many times, and I think the answer is no, and in the end... computer beats all of those consoles easily...

TGC is already developing games for Iphone so I think they have enough of operating system differences. Would be cool to have FPSC for Symbian or Windows Mobile operating systems for phones.

TGC put out a survey a few months back giving FPSC users to choose their most important feature requests. Cross platform support was one of those options.

I've not heard anything about the results of that survey but 1 exciting thing is future FPSC games can be compiled to run in a web browser or stand alone.

This will open the door for some interesting possibilities.

Pretty sure its impossible without heavy moding. Using the Xbox contoller on a pc is probably the closest you'll get for a while :p

Just sit and think of the size of that market! We conpletely ignore it now by only making games for windows. I think this is something I will be looking into heavily.

It is very hard to compete with mainstream game producers with fps creator. sure, you could make a game and sell it for say £10, but then again, COD 4 is on sale at £10 too...

Mind you, it would be good to see more ''Mini game'' style FPSC games, they would work well on the Xbox Live arcade and PSN.

I don't think it's something that's being ignored; it just isn't top priority at the moment. Would you add a brand new body to a broken down sports car before replacing the engine first, and getting the car running effeciently? There are so many things that need to be repaired/optimized in the current source before another feature makes its way in.

As of right now, even if the software could be formatted for the Playstation or the Xbox console, the same limitations would still apply. Imagine a freeroam game like Fallout 3 with a 'world', the size of a large house. Or a Nazi Zombies DLC mini game where the frame rates drop to 10 when you have more than 4 zombies attacking the windows. There would be no physics, no (functioning) multiplayer servers, no dynamic shadows, etc. The engine still needs work, IMO.

To be honest, not many people are making games for Windows, either when you think about it. Sure two hundred or so game projects are started here each week, but there are only a handful of published games out there, that make it farther than a couple of screenshots.

I did some reading when looking into XNA for the xbox and I forget the name of the playstation one right now and it didn't seem to me like a problem of FPS being cross platform it was more money than anything. I think (if I remember correctly) It was about $750 for the cable to connect the computer to the xbox and that would only allow you to test it. After that it was a large sum of money and around 20% royalties to sell it on the xbox marketplace.

After Atari let anyone who wanted to create a game for the 2600 or 7800 and people almost didn't buy the Nintendo NES because they where sick of paying $50 for a game that took about 5 minutes to complete, console manufacturers started using codes and copyrights to allow only approved game to be produced for their systems. So it is not really just a matter of embedding a line of code into the FPS creator source code and making it work on the xbox. (I site Jeannie Novak, a professional game creator and author "game making essentials 2nd edition)

I apologies if my info is out of date it has been a while since I have looked into XNA, but it is free from microsoft if anyone wants to check it out. FPS seems way better right now to me though.

And Kravenwolf said it best about games not being finished,At EA games less than 1% of the games ever see the store shelves.

I don't think anyone is ignoring it, but for TGC to take on a project like making games available for consoles would pull too many of their resources and the current products would suffer because of it.

On top of that, some people comlpained about paying 30 bucks for the FPSC bonanza. To have cross compatablity through out consoles, the release of such a product would have a price range around the same as Torque3d . Rightfully at that.
