Hey Gang, I am trying to import two 3DS files into DBPro but it crashes each time.

I tried using just a simple untextured box and that worked!

But the tank which is a more complex object but still only 603KB doesn't load and only crashes.

Has anyone else expirienced this, if so what did you do to rectify this.

Thanks
Steve

use a .x or better yet, a .dbo model instead.

I agree, I have used x files in the past however 3DS Max 2010 does not export .x or the suggested .dbo, is there such thing as a converter, or can I just rename it?

How on earth can you shell out for 3DS Max, then question whether you can just change an extension?

I believe you need a plugin or some such for 3DS Max to allow it to export to .x

I can't say I've ever used it, the $3,500 price tag puts me off a little.

Search the forums for a converter, I think DeleD can do it, but I'm not 100% sure

Try importing the 3DS into Fragmotion (free) and then export it as an ".x"...

I've used the Pandasoft plugin in Max 8 with no problems though, which version of Max are you using? (there's a tutorial on the forums somewhere...)

Panda works fine if your mesh is done properly.... I have had ome issues with the geometry using Panda, but I found out it was my fault for doing too much modification in 3DSMax and then exporting it. It would seem fine in 3DSMax, but would look like an explosion (the pollys would not be connected) when I exported it. You have to make sure all the bone weights on each vertex are correct. As far as converting to .dbo, sometimes it's faster to load and/or smaller to do .dbo, but sometimes it's not. I do a check for size and load speed whenever I convert.

Good luck.

I have 3DMax 8 and the Panda plug-in works perfect, but I have download from the same page the Panda plug-in for 3DMax 10, and when program is starting, a pop up menu says that is a wrong Dle and simple don“t export to .x
In the past, I remember, that a converter came with darkbasic pro in Tools folder....DBconv, but only for no bones objects.

cheers.
