Read the tutorials in the Newcomers forum, and then experiment.

We ALL started the same as you being not great at it but wanting to learn! I look forward to seeing what you can achieve in the future!!

My best advice would be "don't give up", sometimes it's hard to see why something isn't working but if you can work it out before asking for help you'll learn quicker.

...and have FUN!

First experiment and read the tutorials. DO different things. Ask other forum users later. And later read a Direct 3D book, and later a Shader Book.

My personal opinion is to just get stuck in - do some tutorials and experiment. What matters here is really how you react to situations when code makes little sense. If you are determined the coding world is your oyster so to speak, however if you are deterred when you come across a problem with code you cannot fathom, then perhaps its not for you.

I've been meaning to ask this.. Can you make actual D3D calls in DBpro, without special plugins, etc?

Will be a while before I ever get in to 3D but I intend to try and learn at some point.. Might want to tackle 2D first, but I definitely would like to experiment with trying to do an Isometric game in the future (for 3D people say make the camera and then rotate it 90 deg. to get the "view"). Sacred 2 had a great camera and engine in general imho, its too bad Ascaron went under.

Every command in DBPRO is basesed on D3D. When you know D3D, you know there are various thing that DBRPO makes easier to you.

The D3D is better to read because it helps you understand the fixed funciton pipeline and the programmable one.
