This is called trolling. He states "I am only a teenager" need I say much more? let them troll about FPSC. They are only mad because they couldn't create a game on one of the most easiest engines around. He though he was going to get the crytek 3 engine and it was going to be just as easy as FPSC. lol people need to understand that if you want AAA games it takes years, money, and an engine you need to "Hard code" in. If you really consider Dark basic pro a high level language. I find it easy and enjoyable.

The comment about the forums was post in '07, and I have to say, around that time, they were right. Newcomers to the forums here around that time usually received little to no help at all and were lucky to have a member come in to genuinely offer help. I believe those were the days of people constantly saying "RTFM" to the newbies.

I, for one, am not going to be coy about it. Their opinion (however bias it may sound) is spot on in many cases. Don't deny the things that are wrong with the software, guys. We all know it's there, so don't pretend it isn't. The engine lags horribly, the stock AI is no more intelligent than a jar of mayo, and the stock weapons had lackluster appeal to them. We can get around these things, but the commenters make the point that many of us defending the product forgot a long time ago... FPSC did indeed promise to allow you to make games with no programming knowledge at all, while providing the media. This came with the premise that it would run well, too.

Some people just weren't MEANT to create games. Especially if they give up and dismiss it that easily.

Most people here, including me, have this drive to CREATE. We relish finding out goofy workarounds to known problems. We love the challenge, almost to the point of being obsessive-compulsive. Our games don't necessarily have to be AAA quality, as long as they are OURS.

That's a common thread that holds together a community like this. Some people don't have it in their blood. If something isn't easy, they just give up. They would rather spend their time CONSUMING entertainment, rather than creating it.

Plystire raises a very valid point; of course now, having been here a little while (certainly not as long as Plystire), but having had FPSC since 2006 myself and watched the forums, media, features and ambition of the program grow since then, the opinions of those who commented in that link stem from not knowing where FPSC could get to.

We all know that the sale pitch for the software encourages everyone to believe it's a lot easier than in reality, to produce a first person shooter with little to (and in my case), no scripting knowledge.

However, that's exactly what separates everyone still here, and everyone who is willing to shut down FPSC and put to shame anyone who is associated, specifically the developers. The important thing we should all stop and remember here is, you can't put us to shame; we all have our reasons to be here, and we all love FPS Creator for what it is. It's a great program for getting into independent game development, FPS development and creative fun in design: whether that's modelling, levels, texturing, scripting, whatever we can utilize our imagination for. We haven't given up on FPSC, and neither has it's developers.

With Project Blue/Fenix Mod, and in time, V1.17 - I can stand here and proudly say FPS Creator will be one heck of an engine, and will always be more fun to play around with, in my opinion, than any other engine out there.

In the end, who cares what others have to say; it's a wide open world, they can use whatever they prefer to try their creative hand at game development. But we're here, we use FPSC, we're happy and we're doing just fine. Through thick and thin, of piracy and the odd forum member who explodes for their own personal reasons - to the other end of the spectrum as we see astounding forum members like bond1, hockeykid, plystire, and rolfy (not intentionally leaving anyone out), moving FPSC forward in brilliant ways - along with moderators like KeithC, Nickydude, Thraxas, FredP and Bullshock (again not intentionally leaving anyone out) who have always been there for us, and still are, to keep things under control and give constructive criticism - we have a more than admirable community in our midst.

I appreciate this forum so much, everyone has generally always been accommodating, friendly, generous and seeing so many of us growing better and better each year in skill, whether it's modelling, texturing, scripting, level design or all of the above, has been absolutely rewarding. It's rewarding because we're a community; we're all here for the same reason and it's just wonderful to see the influence, intuitiveness, creativity, cooperation, guidance and accomplishment that's resonated so very much on this common ground.

Cheers

FYI so am I. I have some problems with it but it's cheap and great for someone who doesn't want to spend lots on a high end program like unreal engine or frostbite. But if I have difficulties I work around it not throw a tantrum on a website. This kid needs to grow up.

I suppose that this is where I'm supposed to put some witty one liner. Well...sorry to disappoint.

I agree with Ply, on a level.

I think they just don't realize that you can use mods and that stock media sucks. I think they'd appreciate it better if they:

a. Put in a little extra time.

b. See what's going down on the forums.

c. Asked for a little helps.

The stock media is my favorite part about FPSC lol.
I dare you to find a game engine that offers that much stock media.

Signature's are stupid.

Lol I think that some of the people on there are to childish to want to make a game. It's not easy enough. But I do agree with the fact that sometimes we all get to strict on here when new members ask questions, even though they could look at the guide that is in their docs to anwser must of their questions. I understand some questions are not anwsered in the guide, but some of us older members should be willing to share more knowledge then we do.

Take for instance I had a problem with a script, so I sent it to Ply and he told me my script was to long and that I could only have a script of only 130-140 lines in order to work. That is something I had never heard of. I thank Ply and Hockeykid for all their help at scripting for it is the one thing I feel I have yet to get a real grip on.

I am willing to help out where I can, but like me I know we have our limits to anwsering the same questions over and over again.

Some food for thought, but that article still cracks me up though.

Wow!
Three more nerds who can't figure out how to use FPSC?!?!

You see, nerds think of cool stuff but geeks get it done. (hence, those guys are nerds)

Yeah, that thread got how many opinions in 5 years? wow

Yeah, FPSC is not perfect, but no engine is and you can find flaws in any of them.
The fact remains that FPSC is one of the easiest engine to make an FPS, and they never said you would create a AAA game with no coding experience, just your own game.
As everyone has stated, it is up to you what you do with FPSC, especially since the source was released.
Plystire and the other modders are living proof that many great things can be done with this engine for those who actually want to work at it.
For those expecting it to all be done for them... just go buy a game, because I doubt you have the patience or desire to make your own anyway.

Its just my own point of view, but if you want to create a game using FPSC straight out of the box that matches up to AAA games out there, its not gonna happen. But I believe it is becoming more and more possible to create this if you want to put the effort into learning all the aspects of game design using this fantastic little engine, lets face it if you want to do it all yourself then you need to know more than simply how to drag and drop, anybody who quits straight off because they couldnt create a game which matched up to those created by large teams of designers/programmers/scripters etc, miss the point that creating such a game using one of the more powerful engines is a heck of a lot more difficult and time consuming, yes your end result will be better but do you honestly believe that if you cant work around the failings of fpsc you will achieve something in UT3 for instance.
Personally I love finding ways to get results in this engine and thats what makes me stick with it, its a learning experience and I will never get tired of that. There are many others on these forums whose skills are always surprising and beneficial to each and every one of us and sometimes I wonder why they are even here when they could move on to bigger things, its very simple really they have a community spirit and realise that together we can all contribute to making things work the way folks want it all to.
I see many folks around here who just get better and better at what they do, (look at Ply's join date) this guy didnt have to come over here from the DBP forums and take FPSC to a level never seen at the time with Project Blue along with S4real I remember Riker9 and how dissapointed folks around here were it never happened, but these guy's saw it through. Even after the migration things will still move forward due to the forum members who actually do something about the lack of functionality or add to the media available for use in this software instead of sitting around bemoaning its drawbacks and giving up, if you cant create a game in FPSC yourself, you sure as heck cant create a game using anything else.
I know it can be annoying if new members ask basic questions which can be answered with a search or reading the manual, but we have all been there and those members may be the future ones who take this all to another completely new level, provided they aent scared off at the start, learning something completely new can be daunting and its easy to forget that each and every one of us was there at some point, give the new guys a break, its different when they keep making the same mistakes when posting asking for info thats already available but I believe most of 'em get the hang of it real quick.

There is little point paying any attention to these kind of reviews when V1.17 is being worked on. I'm sure even the most critical of reviews would have to give FPSC credit for the features which are going to be available in a $50 engine which doesn't require programming skills.

Most other engines expect you to do a significant amount of scripting yourself for game logic and AI which can require good knowledge of C++ or similar languages. If you look at something like Leadwerks, its a powerful game engine with lots of great features but all you tend to see from that community is graphics or physics demos and no gameplay.

The one feature FPSC will always have over any engine out there is giving people the ability to create high quality first person shooters with nothing but their own imagination, time and effort.
