I can use either a sprite or a locked plain(plane) as an information panel, I write the info to a bitmap, make an image then paste to either sprite or locked plain. This allows me to update status about twice a second. These images take up about 20% of screen.

Does anyone know the pro / cons to either approach?

Here are my 2 cents

Plain - slightly harder to position but automatically scales

Sprite - must remember to switch backsave off (for speed), easy to position, must scale it yourself

I tried both methods on the screen at same time the text was white on black background.

The text on the plane was grey while the sprite was a pure white. I think this is because the plane is affected by the scene lighting and the sprite is not.

IanM scaling is not a problem I use the sprite size command right after the sprite is called.

Sprites are the best way imo. One good thing about locked plains is you wont have to resize the panel for different resolutions but I think sprites are better and easier to position etc.

If you use a plane you can switch off it's sensitity to scene and ambient lighting too.

Personally though, I prefer to use a sprite too

sprites seem to be easier for me to get the placement and desired result, but I'm sure it's just a personal pref thing, either should be fine.
