I ask this confessing that through trial and error I think I already have the answer, but... maybe not? Must an entity be 100% within the confines of the map for it to show in the built game?

Yes, as far as my experience has led me to believe. Any part of an entity that is outside of the map will not show up in the level.

There are some segments that are larger than 1 unit. Like 2x2 units. If you place it at the edge and one of the units falls outside of the map, it has never shown up for me.

Thanks. Yeah, I have large entities that I'm using to hide elements of a skybox. Since I only needed one side of the entities, I've been placing them at the absolute edge of the maps. When I build, they're nowhere to be seen. Oh well...

Thanks for the resposnses.

You could try a billboard

Its too bad, i have absolutely no idea besides you need an image, alpha channel, and a flat plain.

Yeah, being that 75% of my game is outdoors, I have a feeling that I'm either going to have to learn something about billboards or learn to create skyboxes.

Billboards must be what they call mattes in making movies and TV shows (especially sci-fi).

Yea, Marc talks them up but where is there a tut for them? If one can make a billboard, is it placed just like an entity is placed? I suppose it would be static. I guess I haven't checked Nickeydudes manual; maybe he has something in there about billboards since he uses them. Worth checking out his manual again. I've used it on several occasions.

Yep, they are placed like entities. And they can be static or dynamic - I personally use dynamic because it allows transparency and they can be moved via scripting.

I don't see where dynamic entities would be more useful. Wait, maybe that's why they are more useful.

Marc Steene: Static entities also have transparency lol. For blocking off the world, static billboards are perfect.

I have signs 5. I'm going to have to give it a go and see what I can do. Except I'm terrible at graphics so I'm not sure where I'm going to come up with something actually useful.
