Hi,
I need a text editor that is coded in DB...just a place to enter text.
I need to be able to use the arrowkeys to move the cursur and i need to be able to add/change/remove lines

All help would be greatly appreciated

You dont need one, you already have one, and its more efficient than Dark Basic, its called Notepad

It isn't easy or practical to make a text editor in DB or DBP. I tried it once. It isn't pretty. The best way would be to make the program in VB, or make a DLL to do it with windows. RobK already made a plugin for this actually. It has alot of windows stuff like radio buttons, textboxes, etc. It costslike $12 though.

If you are making an IDE, dont waste your time. I cant even imagine an IDE that needs DirectX to run. Itll be slow and unresponsive. So just stop now (if you are attempting), unless youre doing it to learn.

Im not making an IDE
Im not that stupid (although I might be close)!!

I need to be able to edit a text file...I need it so when I press a key it saves as something (NOT the windows save box...i want it so it prompts you for a file name, and saves it in a sepecified directory)and it closes and goes back to the program...
I don't care if its in a seperate window I just need whats listed above!!!

If you've got VB (Visual Basic), just make a program in that and use one of the commands in DBPro to execute the file. If you are using Microsoft Visual C++ or Java, just use an edit control.

Nope, not gonna happen sadly. Microsoft owns the language, and if anyone made a third party compiler for it, Microsoft's lawyers would swarm all over the maker.

Sorry m8, forgot the system file, just put it in the same directory.
should be a ok then. you may have spelt the dll wrongly please check if this doesnt work. but it should...

Thats really good!

One thing...How do you save...it says "DO YOU WANT TO SAVE" I hit yes, and it does nothing.

Also it would be nice if you just had to hit enter instead of hitting apply

hi there, glad you liked it, it saves when you click yes.
it just saves to file called. code.txt

if you edit some lines then save it, you can then clear the screen and loading the txt file will bring up what you saved. proof is in the pudding.

ill do a save/load dialogue version soon as i get some more time. i work as a web designer so my spare time is very limited. i will however implement the return key. a simple process. ill upload it soon, it will be the same link as before, but this time all files included.

This is a much nicer version. try the save out now. all credits to me please. yeh! right...

also put in the return function, and you can make multiple copies of the line by clicking line and pressign return try it.

i have pack all files needed into one folder, so no worries there.

have fun with it, this will be my last upload of this editor. should do all you want now.

If you have the time..could you make it so it understands a commmand line..like if u were to have this:

execute file "txtedit.exe","save test.txt",""


so when u press save it saves as test.txt

also,
after u press enter it would be nice if it went to the next line and u just typed and hit enter again instead of clicking on the entry line.

also by me, i shall be releasing a new version soon, shareware only, 30% smaller, load your own skins ect. just thought id show this one off.

please post you thoughts. this version doesnt play variable mp3s, it will crash, but the new skinable version does not do this. includes drag and drop playlist and six skins.

You can download a Envelope for free of the internet...envelope is basically a visual basic clone...it's what I use because I'm cheap and don't like to buy things if I don't have to

New version of txtedit available. use same filename as before. this one will load a file and save a file of your choosing, but you have to type it in to the ew text area.
