My question is:
Can I produce a "commercial" game with the free version of DBPro?
As at the moment I wonder whether I should get the FPS Creator bonanza and use the models from that, or get Dark Game Studio Bonanza to get DBPro "paid".

If you sell your finished game, you need a licence. Dark Game Studio Bonanza is worth its price anyway!

Yes that is a link.Yes its on the news line at the top of page.No you probably couldn´t produce a "comercial" game with DBpro free,but that´s not to say you wouldn´t get all the help you could ask for on here in trying to make one,you just have to be able to follow and understand the advice given.

I was talking about a link that stated there was a need for a license.
I don't need a link to the DGS Bonanza.

ajfweb-
Mobius answered your question with his first post,the paid for version of DBpro wether its the stand alone version or the one included in the bonanza bundle pack includes everything you need.
Or you could just do a search for "license" on here.

Getting straight answers seems like pulling teeth around here,

I asked the same question about the license of GDK with the game studio bonanza and couldn't get an answer

Getting straight answers is quite easy as long as you ask the questions properly and give enough information in them for people to understand what your asking for help with.
If i was to ask "can i fly to the moon",you would probably answer no,but if asked "i have an apollo rocket and work at nasa,can i fly to the moon",then the answer may be somewhat different.

Not really. If you pay for it, then you can sell finished games.

The question...
Quote: "Can I produce a "commercial" game with the free version of DBPro?"

The answer...
No.

The correct answer is as my first post.

The detail is in the presentation. As the saying goes, ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

I think the problem is the phrase "All programs made with DarkBASIC Professional are License and Royalty free.".

What does it mean exactly? It seems to imply that you can sell the games you make. If not why not?

It's no use saying the answer has already been given if you need to be a lawyer to understand the answer.

So I'd like a straight answer too - in simple terms that anyone can understand.

@Oneka

There's no need to be unnecessarily offensive.

Edit:

Original OP question:

Quote: "My question is:

As at the moment I wonder whether I should get the FPS Creator bonanza and use the models from that, or get Dark Game Studio Bonanza to get DBPro "paid". "

My answer:
YES, if you are good. Commercial quality games require alot of talent and time. Art, models, packaging, and of course, coding. If you want to make a commecial quality game, and you think you have all it takes, of course the free version of DBPro can make a commecial quality game.
Now, if you are asking, which you didn't specify in your original post, is if you can SELL a game made with the free version of DBPro, I still think the answer is yes. I think this is where the confusion, and flaming, is coming in.
@Oneka
Its a dick kind of question, you know what I mean?

I think it could be made a little clearer tbh.

I assume maybe the licence to the FREE DBP mentions something about not being able to sell anything made with it? and the Paid for DBP doesn't. Or maybe we're all wrong, and the only consequence of having the free one is putting up with the adverts (if you use the official IDE...); but the free to learn/paid for to sell seems to be the TGC model, and is how DarkGDK and FPSC work.

I'd also like it to be made more obvious that the Dark Game Studio DarkGDK is the free version, and not the licenced version.

ugh, read the OP's question. He didn't ask anything about selling.
Everyone just assumes "commercial" means sell. Its too ambiguos. And btw, how is anyone going to know what you compiled your program in? and this is a serious question, btw.

edit:
the first response said it all, in my opinion.

@Visigoth:
I know he didn't ask anything about selling stuff he'd made, but if you assume he's meaning "commercial quality" then his question doesn't make sense? It'd be as tho he's asking if he can make quality games with the free version? (Which as we all know is the same as the paid for one bar an advert supported editor and maybe a licence to sell stuff you've made). How'd they Police that? "Your game's too good, you'll have to buy a licence now or delete your source?"

I don't mean to be rude, or cause offence;

A better answer would maybe be "Yes you can if you put in enough hours, but you can't sell it unless you have the paid for version"

(And then a helpful link or excerpt from the licence to clear up the ambiguity a little)

You need to buy a licence (I.E. Buy DBPro) to sell anything created with DBP.

That quote looks like something from the FPSC.

For anything to be "free" of something, it means to be void of that something.... IE, not have it. To be "Royalty Free" means to not have royalties. A royalty (IIRC) is when you make something using someone else's product and by using their product, you have to pay them a portion of your profits from what you made. Since DBP is "Royalty Free", that means you don't have to pay them a portion of any profit you make from your games. Now, being "License Free" (what I took it for) means that it does not come with a strict license, dictating what you can and cannot do with the software you create. Of course... you must purchase DBP in order for the "License and Royalty Free" thing to apply to you.

Let me try to sum that up for you (in case any of my "lawyer jargon" confused somebody):

Royalty Free --->>> You don't have to give TGC part of any profit you make from your games.
License Free --->>> No license dictating what you can and can't do with your DBP apps.

Buy DBP --->>> Sell the games you make with it.

If it's as simple as that why doesn't every hammer, screwdriver, etc, that you buy claim to be "Royalty Free"? Sounds a vacuous claim to me.
