Games are made up of all the "dbpro things" you see in the tutorials in the newcomers section.
If you try and write a game from scratch without knowing any of the basics then you'r setting yourself up for a fall.
Start
>here< (TDK's tutorials are an excellent starting point) and once you've got the hang of the basics, then try and write a simple game (Like Pong, or an Invaders clone, think retro because these are the easiest games to write)
My other piece of advice is to plan your game meticulously on paper, every tiny little detail before you think about coding it.
