Right, HELLO THERE! I'm DiDiT and I'v been lurking around the forums for sometime now, having only just decided to make an account.

I have to admit, this place is a little bit confusing and it seems I'm too thick to work out anything. I'v only just installed Fenix mod because I was told it was good so I'm still a little shady on how all the codes and such works, But I can tell its full of cool resources!

And so this brings me to my request; What do you recommend a newbie like me should download/buy/read/learn?
I'm just a poor and stupid young man, so if possible, free stuff with non-brain-exploding explanations on what they do would be best, but anything like that from mods to models would be awesome!

Thanks in advance,
--DiDiT

hi !

a cool shop list :

the free edition of DBP , it's the last version , and it's even better than it was some years ago.

http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2000&page=free

the download would be worthy just for the exemple sources...

some times ago , it was a lil' bit tricky to implement BSP maps into DPB , now it's so easy...

hands on dbp volume 1 and 2.

also , a bit later , there is a bunch of cool extensions for darkbasic , especially darkNet , and dark AI , they provide simple , intuitive and powerfull acess to complicated

exec: allright, now i want the cg team to be exited like crazy.
conny : okay , sure ! *she undress*
exec : non , no !! not like this , with the concept designs!

First read the manual that came with the software

then the guide
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=131868&b=21

Then fenix mod manual
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=164467&b=21

Then learn how to model and animate with free programs like blender.org, google sketch up, etc. Then once you got the basics look into buying more advanced programs like 3d studio max etc.

Also spend as many hours a week studying scripting. Read the stock fpi files try your own, whatever it takes do it as often as possible and as long as possible.

Last, never give up. if you hit a snag search here, or go to your local boarder book store and study some more.

Free models are everywhere
search the forums here for free models

www.google.com

Read the agreements carefully and make sure you are legally allowed to use what you find for what you need. You don't want to get a ban, or worse because you got too lazy to read the agreement.

Welcome to the community DiDiT! For texturing your own models use a combo of Paint.net and GIMP. Get plugins to enhance your textures, especially the N map plugin. (N=normal) Definitely get your hands dirty with Blender, it can be extremely fun at times, but also frustrating when starting out. I recommend these tutorials: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=154558&b=24 They helped me get started with Blender, also look around on Youtube to learn more tricks. If you have any questions, feel free to search for threads. If you can't find answers there, ask away and make a new thread! Also keep an eye out for freebie models and such on the Scripts, Chat, and Models and Media pages. You never know what pleasant surprises you'll find.

Also check out the stuff released by Cosmic Prophet. He has stuff ranging from scifi to pirates and cities to country themes. Great stuff.

If you get mad and want to type something nasty about another person do this-Type what you want to say in the box then press ctrl-a and hit delete then type what you should say.

You can also find free media in the TGC Store( some you have to pay TGC points). And you can also find free media on www.fps-files.com.

If you can see the enemy, they can see you.
