Is it possible to load a .3ds file with DBPro? Whenever I try, the program exits abnormally.

I have all sorts of problems loading 3ds files. Some work, some don't.

I can't even load the alien 3ds model! Program just aborts on the load object command.

No doubt we will be told again there is no problem with 3ds files.

I am using latest 5.1b upgrade by the way.

no you cannot load .3ds files.

You can onvert them using the .3ds to .x converter if you have db

I'm using .3ds files with no problems, But they all come from 3ds MAX. I've only ever had problems with 3ds file from other modelling packages. However X files are better (They load faster) so download the demo of DB Classic and find the conv3ds program. It's a stand alone exe so you needn't use DBC at all. Alternativley there's one in the Direct X sdk Extras available from the Direct X website.

3ds objects I create with Milkshape are ok but lots of others dont work.

Even if I import alien 3ds model into milkshape and reexport it as a 3ds file it still don't work. What is logic in that?

Has anyone running 5.1b managed to load the alien 3ds file? The x file is perfectly ok.

I'm not too bothered if they work or not but wish Lee or someone similar could release a statement giving the current state of play as it is getting tiresome reading about peoples woes with 3ds files.

It's all well and good saying 3ds files made in program X or program Y will work perfectly but surely someone actually knows!

At a guess, I'd say some programs use a modified version of the .3ds format.

Like CattleRustler I have used files from 3ds MAX R3.1 with no problems, but they are very limited in what they actually contain when exported, ie: Bones, smoothing and vertex deformation is removed. Since this is the standard format for 3ds files I could only imagine a 3rd party program which exports 3ds files with any 'extra' data could make DBPro throw a wobbler.

Just a guess!
