I looked back at one of KravenWolfs posts where it had a link to get the 2 .DLL's but when I went to the link the site had 2 other links. One was the Normal Map .DLL, and the other link was for the .DDS .DLL. Both of those links are down so now I dont know where to get them. I looked every where but no Cigar.

Plz I really need this!!!!

Not sure where you can get them, Googling never hurts, but WHY, oh WHY would you use GIMP? GIMP is terrible.

Here you go. Just extract this into you program files or follow the folders and place both the dds and the normalmap in the plug-ins folder. Keep in mind these are for windows. Enjoy!

Photoshop, I get access to it because the technology center I IT at has it, and allows employees and apprentice's to use whatever software they have if they have an extra license.

Sorry, but GIMP just lacks in any good features that other software like Paint.NET has.

Touche... Well look at it crispex. You have to buy photoshop... or I think you do. But Gimp-2 is free. It has some decent features but I don't want to buy photoshop. So yes I do agree gimp-2 is terrible but it is what I got. Money don't grow of tree's in my town.

I'm just curious to hear what these features are, because I work with both programs, and prefer GIMP. I can't speak for Photoshop; though I would expect it to be better than GIMP, the same way that I expect 3D Studio Max to be better than Blender. Either way, and even by comparison, GIMP is far from terrible.

I agree. I have both photoshop and gimp. Gimp uses photoshop plugins. Deviant art is full of plugins for gimp. Gimp does have a few features that are lacking from photoshop, but overall it is quite a nice free program to use instead of the $70 price tag the photoshop has or had.

Besides this post is going off course.

Let me rephrase. It might have the same features, but they are not as in detail and Open Source software is terribly under-developed. No, it's not the idea that it's free so it's somewhat worse, I happen to use many Open Source programs and they are perfectly fine, it's the fact that Open Source is still very unstable. I've worked enough with Linux, Open Source, etc. and nearly all of it is rather unstable compared to something developed by a more well rounded company. Problem with Open Source is ANYONE can contribute, meaning amateur programmers can get in, start adding features, causing the program to become incredibly unstable. I also dislike the way it's laid out. I like a full window GUI, not this floating toolbar crap that they put.

I have no problem with him sharing his opinion. He uses the software that he prefers, and I use the software that I prefer. And that's fine. If GIMP wasn't a good program, it wouldn't get the job done for me, and I wouldn't still be using it. I've had no problems with stability, and the GUI is simply a matter of preference. I think it's a great program, does everything that I need it to and then some. And until that changes, I'll continue to use it.

I have used GIMP, Paint.NET, and Paint Shop Pro. I prefer PSP out of all of those, however I have since had to reformat my disk and have lost the serial code.

So, out of Gimp and Paint.NET I prefer Paint.NET. Not because of features, Gimp blows Paint.NET out of the water, but Paint.NET seems a lot easier to use. It's not as technical. Which I like.

No problem with that. What works for some might not work for others, I totally respect that. I just can't stand how limited I feel with GIMP, but some people might not like how bloated Photoshop is. Regardless, I'll just leave it at that. Good luck with your .DLL issues and whatnot.

Now at the end of the day we use what we use to get the job done. So there is no nee to fuss about it over which one is better. It is how you use your knowledge to make the program work good. It is all just our opinions that can lead to a flame war. Thankfully we all brought this to an end like civilized people... thank you

Ditto Red Eye, I use both as Pain.NET is more simple for basic designs, and you can then export them into GIMP to snazz them up a little. Plus, they're both free and GIMP almost harnesses the same power as Photoshop .

Anyhow:
Normal Map Generator for GIMP
DDS File Plugin

Install them as required and enjoy .
