Open up the 'FPS' file (with notepad)of the segment you wish to change then change the 'number' value of the 'materialindex = 0' at the 'floor' section (first section) of the list.
1 = light stone
2 = stone
3 = metal
4 - wood
5 - glass
6 = water
7 = cloth

All the best of luck

Ok I know that but I should of explained this better.. (My Bad)

Is there anyway to change the materials sounds because I am making a game that you are a small bomb defusing robot... (cough) (Cough)...
It has little tank treads and I got a great noise that perfectly fits the robots moving sounds. I have the 3rd person script for it.

I have been looking to do the same thing with spurs/boots sounds (I'm working on a Western game).

I imagine you would need WAVs of the treads running over those media (stone, metal, wood, etc.) and replace the original footstep files in the audiobank (I think foosteps WAVs are housed there).

Interested in hearing what someone with more experience has to say...

Yeah, audiobank/materials

To make the track sounds on differet materials, you can try FL or maybe audacity and play with them to get the sound you want.

Other than editing he current materialindex sounds, I suppose it would require creating new material indexes in the source of the engine..

Well in the file there is a notepad file. I opened it up and for every material there was a sound file next to it. I just erased the names of them and put my sound file. Then I got a Run time error... lol So I changed it back and now the game works perfectly. But still no sounds for the robot.

Found this thread on changing footstep sounds. Seems you can easily replace the files, but the new file needs to be named the same as the old:
