Wow, this is the first time I've asked a question in a long time, lol.

I've been toying around, and have even built a simple particle effects generator.(Will mainly be used for weather effects.)

Though there is one effect I've been killing myself to get. Maybe particles might not be the best way to get it though.

If you've ever played ESF(DBZ half-life mod), then you may know what I'm talking about.

Just take a look at those screenshots. Pretty neat huh?

How should I go about achieving a similiar effect? Maybe I make a cylinder and just stretch it out, and slap a texture on it?

I am doing a fighting game that will have similar effects just like ESF.

Thanks for your time.

I did a little search, and here's what I've found. Still havn't gotten that solid look I wanted, but the glow effect is nice. I'll try to see if I can apply that to a cylinder, and then stretch it across an area later in the day.

(Feel free to play around with this code, maybe we'll get something good going.)

an easy way are 2 cylinders, one larger with ghost on and using the new diffuse etc settings you can use ... should give you a really cool look.

Assuming that you want a glowing/pulsing energy beam, try these tweaks out. Note that I added a space key. Run the code, give it few seconds to 'build' the beam, and then hit the space bar to 'fire'. To me it has a nice organic look common with psychic and Ki/Chi based attacks.

bump:

Still havn't had much success. Your snippet did help me out a little Zircher. Unfortuantley, I'm still trying for better effects.

I'll squeze a couple minutes of time into DBP later today to see if I can achieve anything.

(This is the code from my above posts.)
