Just started with BSP's so bear with me.

I can create 2 types of working BSP at the moment:

1: A fully enclosed map thet contains lightmapping or
2: An open map that won't compile with lightmapping.

I want to use a skybox and lightmapping (have my cake & eat it) anyone managed to do this yet. I've tried using the 'sky' texture (from halflife WAD) on the ceiling of my room but it just appears white.

Has anyone managed to create a transparent brush in Valve hammer?

Darclyte, this used to work up until v4.1. I've not seen the SKY texture work in the more recent patches so you could just confirm this and add it as a bug with code and sample BSP.

Thing is I'm not sure if it is a bug, or just me. This is my first attempt at BSP! so I've never seen it work before. Anyway, anything I texture with 'SKY' just appears white in DB.

I have noticed that the actual Skybox textures are stored in the halflife pak0.pak file. I've tried copying it into my project's folder to no avail.

I really need to know if the 'sky' texture is supposed to be transparent,(In which case I should be seeing my db backdrop colour) or does it call the halflife skybox graphic from the pak0.pak?

I'm going to try a fresh install of dbpro and see what happens, wish me luck!

Yup, You're Right APEXnow.

Just re-installed DBPro 1.0 fresh from the disc and my ceiling textured with 'SKY' is completely invisible. The BSP Light mapping is not rendered though!

Updated with 5.1b and my lightmapping has re-appeared but the ceiling now appears as a solid white box.

I've tried 'Set BSP Multitexturing off' but that has no effect on lightmapping or my ceiling.

Gonna post this on the Bugs Forum & see what we get?

Wahay Sussed it out.......!

Still can't create a transparent ceiling with the 'sky' texture, but I've found a way around it.

Zoners Halflife tools contains a file alled 'zhlt.wad' which contains 3 special textures. One of them 'NULL' allows the tools to compile your BSP Map with light mapping and then removes any polygons textured with "NULL". DBPro displays all of the lightmapping correctly and has an open roof!

I know it's not a fix but it's an easy work around. Now I can create an outdoor BSP with my own skybox! Hope someone else finds it useful.
