So, I'm guessing this grabs a list from the Showcase boards and then filters the results based on key words.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Unless you have some other system of simply adding it (like an admin panel), would you mind sharing your technique for data retrieval? Been working on figuring it out for ages. Perhaps it runs off of MySQL?

Anyway, ditch the installer. The default setup program that can be used in Visual Studio is TERRIBLE. It seldom works.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

It's, not running off a database! tried making that work for like a week then went to the manual way seeing as it failed horribly! So, I had to make the method of using a list box, many if statements and many forms (for the more info section)!

If you do figure it out! Let me know, please! Database would be easier to update and reduce file size!

I used the default installer because it allows me to update it quickly and the update system actually works! So if I upload a updated version now and you opened the application, it would be automatically updated!

Right so some install programs allow you to automatically update (either by their provided services or your own server), such as InstallShield, if you need help creating a better installer let me know, but I will try to work out a way to get data off a database (right now it's not working well because I can't get access to the hidden "proc" table in a MySQL database).

Using data retrieval is not an easy task to configure, unless you have good knowledge and experience in either a database method or SQL. We have applications that pull information and place into the SQL database, and the "client-app" will get that information by retrieving it. Problem is the overhead it puts on the SQL depending on what the information is and how much of it needs to be retrieved, especially with multiple connections doing the same thing.

For something like this application, using a database like MS Access Database may be the better method to go. You can code the application to check for any database update and have the application update that database when required.

Either way, database or your list box method, it does what it is suppose to do. Excellent effort on it. I enjoy seeing other programmer's work and see what ideas are developed.

@WWIV Studios

Well I am working my way through the showcase thread at the moment! The games that are currently added have vailid download links and there from when I checked last week!

If you want a game added you can email me, or I'll check your thread eventually! I'll enable the feature in the options tab soon! So you can submit a game from there (using PHP!). Then I will add it in the next update!

Just seen your game so I will add that soon! Some games dont have more info yet so working on that first! Then I will add more games!

@Blackfox

Using my method was the easiest way to make it work! A functional system is better than a non-functional one!

Absolutely. We used the list box until we had our SQL server installed. Now we use either the SQL or an Access Database for our applications. Either way, you did a good job on this.

Indeed, it is a good program, just needs a better method of data retrieval. I would 100% recommend MSSQL, but the fact is Microsoft servers are much more expensive than Linux servers with MySQL.

Yea they are expensive! Thats why I learnt PHP and MySQL!

Once the majority of the games are added (That have working links - Thats why some of the BOTB titles havent been included!) there wouldnt be any major updates except if I have a idea to improve it, fix something or add new games!

It downloads when the application is opened anyway, if one is available so the user doesn't need to do anything!
