Before saying "sigh... not another shadow thread?"... know that I've already tried everything mentionned in these forums, and so far, nothing have worked. Edited the setup.ini, buildsetup.ini, to no result.

My problem is that my dynamic shadows look like... well, they don't look good. They have plenty of bugs in them too, like they sometimes cut and have "holes" in them when they should be "whole". They're also not smooth at all. More like razor-sharp.

I've tried every tip I've found on these forums so far. Like I said, I've edited my .ini files as mentionned everywhere, and I never get "cool" shadows like what I saw in many screenshots.

Can it be a problem with my video card? I have a GF9500GT with 512Mb RAM with the latest Nvidia drivers installed and I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bits.

I just bought FPSC last weekend and patched it to the latest version (1.16.018)

I don't know how to solve that, but becouse there is so many shadow threads i'm not going to make new. Becouse my static shadows are very small. I have to put 3000 to get light that looks like 500. And always that mappes all my levels items so it takes ages to load test game. Here is pretty much shadow threads.

There is always hope somewhere.

You need to be clear if you are talking about static or dynamic shadows here.

Static shadows are defined by the lightmap texture and quality values in setup.ini

Dynamic shadows are only used if the setup.ini value is set to 1 rather than 0.

You can get better dynamic shadows by changing the dynamic shadows value in setup.ini to 2.

Most games released on the forum don't use dynamic shadows because they have bugs and dont get cast relative to the lights in your game.

FPSC would really benefit from real time dynamic lighting and shadows but that would require a significant development effort.

I'll try that. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll bear that in mind. I'll do some more testing with this, but if it ends up not satisfactory, I probably won't bother with dynamic shadows anymore.

And yeah, FPSC would really benefit from proper realtime dynamic lighting and shadows. I hope that this eventually comes to FPSC. Because I think good shadows improves the look of a game like no other effects can. Especially for scenes happenning in dark alleys or spooky interiors...
