Just started Modelling again after not doing so for 2 years, thought I would start off simple and model a basic sword. Let me know what you think of it and if it could be improved:

you could eliminate the two edge loops in the middle of the handle, other than its pretty clean, looks nice.

I would say, make it a bit sharper (i prefer sharp swords).
But its looking nice, are you planning on texturing it?

Removed a few of the edge loops from the handle and the guard, also made the blade a tad sharper, you can compare the before and after renders here.

@Cheese Cake

I probably will texture it, I want to build up a portfolio of 3D work and texturing skills are a must for modellers today, so texturing it will help me improve.

The two edge loops on the handle, and even the two loops in the middle of the blade. Since they don't add anything to the silhouette, there is not much point in having them there. If you got rid of those, you could even go with some more elegant details and keep the same amount of polys. Right now, there are about 64 polies that are not needed.

I attached a pic of the polys that you can remove.

Good job, though. The sword looks nice and crisp. Ready to cleave off an arm!

EDIT: Oops. You beat me to it. I had some work to do here before I hit submit.

My green thumb grew the tree my Trojan War horse was crafted from. With roses in our pockets we rally round the tombstones. Ashes to ashes, we all fall down.

Been working on texturing the sword, I had a few goes and finally got lucky, at least I think so anyway. Let me know what you think of the texture so far and what I could possibly improve on.
