Hi there,

Sorry if this is wrong place to ask my question!
Also, keep in mind that I'm completely new to making video games, so please, be patient with me.

I'm planning on making a free Zombie FPS game but I have few questions related to pixel shaders...

I've seen some stunning screenshots and the videos on YouTube about the Metro Theater and Zombie Model Pack which supports Pixel Shader 2.0 .
Also I've seen some threads about the free pixel shader script (made by bond1) and this DarkShader program as well...

I'm confused now!
I want to my games have Pixel Shader 2.0 graphics but do I need to buy Metro Theater model pack, Zombie model pack and DarkShader to have them or just one of these products or can I use the one bond1 have made so that I can get the shining look on the walls? Also, do I need to script the game to have this shining look on the enemies/walls/floor and everything else.

Also, if I buy some product, will it give me ability to include it in all the models and walls/floors in the FPSC - even the first Model Packs (#1-#10 etc.) or just with these new ones?

Welcome to the forums, Freetime Kames

The shaders used in bond1's Metro Theater video are included with the model pack. You do not need DarkShader to use them in FPS Creator. And you can apply these shader effects to your own walls, floors, and etc. You should also be able to apply these shaders to the earlier model packs, however, you'll need to create the extra shader maps for their textures, and make a few modifications to the entity and segment files.

Bond1 has also released a free normal/spec map shader for segments here. However, this shader requires a shader 3.0 compatible graphics card.

I see a lot of folks confused as to what DarkShader actually is, yes you can write shaders from scratch if you know anything about that sort of thing, DS is mostly a shader editor and a darn good one as you can create spinners and sliders for the parameters you most want to change straight from the interface, not all shaders that you get with it are instantly FPSC compatible but with a small amount of editing mostly to the way textures are called it makes it easier to see how a shader will look when used in FPSC, if FPSC (or your graphics card) actually supports it in the first place, it is not a magic shader creator and does require a little knowledge of what you want to create, for the money its a great utility if you want to tweak shaders to suit a scene (as shaders should be used) most folks apply the same shader all over their objects instead of realising that the same shader with different parameters can and should be applied to different objects to get the best effect.

Thank you for your answers!

So, does it mean that if I use the bond1's free Pixel Shader, I don't need the Metro Theater pack?

However, one thing why I'm interested on the Metro Theater pack is the possibility to add water... But then again, I've seen some mods that allows developer to add water in to the game and it looks stunning as well (but if they're legal to use, that I don't know).

Also, is there some legal page I can download high quality models for free?

Why I'm asking all this, is that I would like to save money as much as possible, because I'm just making this game for fun and not earning anything from it... and I don't have the ability to do any modeling myself.

Buying the FPS Creator and some models (enemies and weapons) are fair price, but when I start to buy something more, it quickly raises the prize higher and is more closer to 100 bucks.
