You could make ghosted grey plains to represent a shadow as a simple effect.

or

DBpro only

SET SHADOW SHADING ON
This command will set the specified object to cast a hardware shadow. This command requires hardware
specifically designed for this feature, as it's a very intensive calculation. Use this command sparingly for
best performance.

The alienware compo demo has realtime shadows, I think you can get it through newsletter 8. Not too shaby with just one alien, but with more - major lag. I plan to limit the number of shadowed aliens, and make an option to disable them, I'll use the shadowed aliens for those closest to the camera.

I was pleasantly surprised when the shadows worked on a memblock created mesh, so it's fine for fancy terrain systems too.

This is the DBPro forum...

I find that if you try and get shadows to work they won't, but when you add them to an existing game they work fine well that's life

david89 just because it is, has that stopped people from posting classic questions in here and vice versa? no, so to be safe you make it clear as mud.

btw the cheeky reply was not warranted was it?

Am I right in thinking that shadows only work with spotlights, maybe that's the problem David, I can get them working with spotlights, but not with omni-lights.

Can't you have those soft circle shadows like they do with those simple platforms?

Or a simple soft square shadow for things like cars or squarish objects. That would be better. Not only that but I'd like to see those simple shadow effects implemented in DBPro and automatically so that you wouldn't have to worry about which object/angle to cast the shadow.

Cheers

@VanB

Shadows only work with point lights I believe, as they need a casting direction.
