Hi all,

Issue 9 of our monthly newsletter was released today.

It includes some exclusive shots of gameSpace by Caligari, DarkMATTER 2 is now available to buy, reviews of some new games, two 20-liners, the UK DB convention and more. Our biggest issue yet infact.

You can read it here: http://www.thegamecreators.com/?gf=newsletter_issue_9

Cheers,

Rich

Copy and paste job from the last issue that you forgot to edit?

Also, I believe you can enter two games to the compo, will this require two registrations or just one?

Anyway, nice Newsletter.

Edit: Typo.

It'll require two registrations, the system will allow this.

Thanks Van

I'm going to be checking out DM 2 for sure

I was wondering, to what extent are they animated (not bone-based, i mean supplied .x's)? Is there a greater variet of movement, for exmaple a run included aswell instead of just a camp walk?

I was also wondering if there was acomplete list of models with pictures aswell, as I'd like to see all before buying to check if there are any I really fancy.

[edit - hehe, i see a matrix ripoff on the DM front page?)

depends are you willing to provide the content?
it can't be easy getting together alot of information for newsletters especially at the slower news times.

no doubt over the next couple of months Rich'll have more news than he can shake a stick at
you know amusingly the newsletter has more information about gameSpace than the actual Caligary website, or rather useful information.

all they have on the sites are what it has in a general overview, there weren't even any screenshots of the UI which to me looks a little fudged up when it comes to the menu.
some good information though, i like the UPX thing works a treat.
although you notice that site has a program to extract data which is media packed ... i think that would be a little worrying for some people.

Heh, bimonthly would be tough. I guess the only time it may be appropreite, is when the alienware issue comes to a close. (There's gonna be tons of games!)
--------------------------------------
Overall, I still like TS5.2 best. While Gamespace is a good addition, I don't think it'll be to reliable right now.

From what I hear, TS6 didn't have an export .x feature, so then they bring gamespace. Hmmmmmm

Can't agree with you more. The only information I've gotten from there website is that it's based on the Truespace interface, and it's meant for game developers. lol

David - I bet you edited your post to say that The original didn't say "and include screen shots".. i'm quite sure!

yellow - There is a "Gamepak" expansion for TS6 which adds in all the features of gameSpace. We'll be launching our own GS site soon, so expect plenty more bits of info.

As for the Alienware registration system I will get it finished tomorrow, was called away onto another project at short notice by which time the newsletter had already gone out to thousands of people... as homer simpson would say... D'oh.

Cheers,

Rich

Interesting. I'll look more into this gamepak.

As for the .X format on TS6, ya gotta buy the $199 conversion pack.
http://www.caligari.com/Products/trueSpace/ts5/Plugins/Caligari/ConversionPack/cp21.asp?Cate=Caligari

I do like their product, and I have TS5, so I can't really complain.
Guess the hype is getting to me.

I believe the GamePak will be released after gameSpace has been launched. From users on their forum though it does sound quite expensive to take the TS6 + GamePak route.

Cheers,

Rich

standard marketing tactic... take an important feature out of an established line to create a dependancy on a new line which for all intensive purposes isn't actually any different.

Microsoft do it all the time, you kinda get used it it when companies are loosing alot of cash to a particular market.
To be honest tS was and always has been either you love using it and the interface, else you think it was sent by the devil ... it is a very simple and well designed UI and alot of power in only a small UI setup, however at the end of the day tS has never been a program for low polycount model creation.

god knows its where i learnt most of my low poly shaping skill but its tool set is just a little more setup for creating high polygon scenes - its not a bad thing, just wish caligari would learn this and stop trying to push it for the games market.

Hehe, you mean like the abysmal network support WinXP Home has! - 95, and 98 had decent network support, Win2000 has great network support, and XP can't even log onto a server properly unless you spend the extra on XP Pro. Pulling stunts like this put people off buying the software and more inclined to pirate it IMO.

What sort of network setup are you trying to use ? At work, my XP machine is connected to a Windows 2000 Server, and it works fine (its slow at 10mbs, but then my boss wont upgrade it).

We use a 100mbit WinNT network, it does connect - but the connection delay seems almost deliberate - it often takes 15 seconds to connect to the server when your simply loading a file from the network.

Put this way, I have a crappy Win95 P300 and a 1+ghz WindowsXP Home machine at work, yet loading a database is much faster on the dinosaur. Not exactly in keeping with progress if you ask me.

Afraid not, look at the edit dates - the only edit in there was the comment about the matrix lookalike character
