****Warning invalid format errors****

You people must be using some strange programs to make your models, I have not said much, because I manage to reload, re-apply the texture, re-save and convert the format if needed. Until these latest models..

Pinball table.. Invalid Format error
Rug............ Invalid Format error
Monitor........ Invalid Format error
Toilet......... Invalid Format error
Alarm System... Invalid Format error

I had to reload, reapply textures and re-save the following...

Box/Candles, Vent, and Grenade. I got these last ones in the scene. (btw the diffuse was set to 0.3 I had to boost that to 100.0 also.)

Oh and allot of the 'DDS files' being used managed to crash the DDS converter I'm using that someone linked in this thread..

Please. verify your models in an outside program like lith unwrap, any .x file viewer (not DBPRO) or something 'Other' than your modeling package. I would never consider these models 'Game-Ready'. Models with 'Some assembly required' should be noted. Bryce 5.5 is free get it.. load your model. if it crashes Bryce.. recheck the file format.

Maybe I'm crazy, but when I make models I try as much as possible to make sure they load into multiple programs. It helps me feel comfortable knowing my model will probably not crash any systems.

So, with that said,.. the files with 'Invalid Format errors' need to be checked and resaved/uploaded. And I'm gonna talk to my fellow judges about the use of .dds files. most if not all modeling packages I know of don't load these. I know it's the latest fad, and best thing since sliced bread. but if you make a model that uses .dds files. please also save the model as a stand alone with .jpg or .bmp textures. and please 'apply the texture then save' so the model file has the texture info attached, not just the uv map, and the texture needs to be loaded separately.

/rant off..

I understand your frustration David. The models you mention look like they were all created in Sketchup, which is already a hassle to work with...

I agree with you 100%, you should always test your model in other programs other then your default modeler to make sure everything was exported correctly. A good habit to get into.

So... basically all my entries are corrupted... IDK why, they are multi-textured, could that be one of the issues... anyways, ill try to get it fixed

EDIT: IDK why your having problems... they work perfectly in FPSC, let me try them in Bryce and ill let you know...

Being multi-texture is an issue when exporting a model. Not all 3d modeling programs can grab the correct textures(if at all) and apply them to the mesh. This is a no-no when distributing models.

Sorry, but I disagree... I was able to load my models just fine in Milkshape and Fragmotion (oh and FPSC too)... IDK why your having problems (and yes, they loaded WITH textures). I use multi-textured entities purely because of the amount of time it saves in the long run (you dont have to go through the hassled process of UV Mapping)... Maybe Ill try UV Mapping a few of these if people still have problems...

anayar: Almost no professional 3d modeler uses multiple textures on one object. It just doesn't work that way.

Might I ask what modeling program you are using anayar? maybe there is a trial version or something I can get and see if exporting them in a different format might work. I think all your models deserve to get put in the scene.

yes it saves time
until it comes to load it into the game.
imagine, normally you load say one object + 1 texture
now you have to load one object + 3 or even more textures
now imagine having quiet a LOT of those in a corridor?
it will take some time to load that up, compared to using just an UVmap.

Well Josh was right, I do use sketchup... Maybe it's the .x exporter I use... Let me take a dive into the code for the exporter again and see what comes up And thank you for trying so hard to fix my entries (it's very nice of you)!

42meg for an object file? I'm gonna have to say I'll pass on that. you might need to bake that on a low poly or something. 42meg is not near reasonable for an object file.

FYI when I load the models (all the models) into bryce they are all larger than the room itself and I have to scale them down, it's a best guess thing. I'll make them bigger if you think they are too small, but I can't make 1 model take up the whole room.

Also, I think you should make a team compotition where you have to work with others to create the entry. Would be alot of fun
