For anyone working hard on their Alienware entry...set yourself some milestones and make it happen!

I struggle to keep myself motivated, you should see the pile of unfinished projects I have. For this compo, I have set myself milestones, it's amazing what a difference it makes. I just reached one tonight, now I'm buzzing!

They don't have to be fantastic, something like this will do...

1. Place all objects in the scene
2. Apply all sounds to all events
3. Implement energy system

When you see yourself ticking them off, it'll keep you going.

Hope my buzz is encouraging someone else out there.

thats a good idea, I've already made mine

1. Actually get off my @$$ and start
2. finish 3rd person camera engine
3. make main character models
4. incorporate event system
5. incorporate battle system
6. add special fx
7. create music
8. release first beta
9. fix bugs
10. release second beta
11. fix the rest of the bugs from beta two
12. release third beta
13. if no bugs, release, if not repeat beta testing until virtually bug free

make it so it fits in 15MB when zipet

Currently my title is comming along nicely, got a few things to work out but right now i've almost purely got content to go which should be completed over the next fortnight.

Basically speaking at the UK Convention you should be seeing the full demo that will be entered into the competition.
What will be demo'd will be a pure Multiplayer Demonstration.

Game has been designed on and specifically aimed at;
Pentium3/Athlon 500mhz
32mb Ram (64mb WindowsXP/2000 Systems)
32mb Direct3D Card AGP2x (32mb GeForce4+/Radeon9500+ AGP4x)
Microsoft Windows 98/ME/XP/2000
DirectX 9.0b
2Button Mouse + Keyboard or Analouge Gamepad w/4Buttons
Local Area Network / 28.8k Modem (For Network Play)

although i'm confident that i'll finish the full demo, i currently have the gameplay demo finished for networked multiplayer and skirmish modes.
only a single character and world/level done, however it still is a very good representation of the gameplay which appears to be what needs to be emphisised in this competitions games.

i won't be releaing any demos or screenshots publically, and only TGC and TCB will have permission to compile any online media for it, suchas runtime movies or screeshots (however not to release the UKC Edition)

you know TCB you really need to think of some cool nick name for the convention, the germany one is called Sync On - so like the UK one should be something just as cool.

Well, I have my level editor in development, along with my water system and ground collision, next step will be making some stand-in models for buildings, then onto making the character models.

My level editor is pretty sweet considering it's about an hours work, scroll around the map with right click, rotate with arrow keys, click and drag the corners to adjust ground height, and drag the ground down to make little rivers and lakes etc. It's amazing how cool an old fashioned plain water system can look on a traditional matrix, you just gotta be sensible with the shore heights and you get nice wavy edges and more organic shaped water.

hehe, here are my milestones:

I'm making a game code named "Super Alien 64 and a half".
I got the idea from some post (don't remember. was it "gimme da codez"?)
I'm allmost done with the game itself (levels, camera, etc.) but I don't have any enemies to bash 'cause they need to be animated!
Anybody wanna gimme a hand? pleeeeeease? With sugar on it?

I need an animator!!! HELP ME!!

nope, all done within the past fornight - not complex at all
the real key is "not to sleep for about a week" j|k
though the last 2nights i've been up all night, yesterday couldn't be avoided - today i'd just layn down to sleep and had an idea on howto do a Controller plugin, been up since coding like crazy.
hope to have it working in a second, wouldn't mind grabbing ahold of someone with a rumblepad with analogue sticks - was looking around for 20mins for my aftershock pad, looked in the box and found a note from my bro "borrowing your pad for a few days - Mike"

just annoying as hell, so if anyone has like a Gravis Aftershock / Logitech RumblePad / Saitek X-3 or something along those lines lemme know cause i need my DLL tested out on them to know it works fine... then everyone can have some decent options for them.

Raven, I wish I had your motivation...and time! I've done the staying up late thing many times, trouble is the efficiency goes downhill from about 2am.

Raven, I have 2 thrustmaster dual power gamepads. I can test your DLL for you if you want.

I'll bring them along to the convention too. Look forward to seeing the game in action

BatVink, you also need copious amounts of free time to make that kind of progress

as the dll is for the gameplay demo to add the local machine multiplayer, as soon as thats done it'll be shipped off to TCB so that he'll have atleast something working from me
(will take alot of pressure to get stuff done too)

Good to hear progress on alien compo. Heh, my title is working along fine. (here's my line-up)

I must finish the particle generator and matrix editor before I can get serious work on my entry. Things are looking up, but I can't guarentee anything right now. Can't believe it's already near end of September. This year is flying, and the clocks are ticking.

Overview: That's right, the same one I showed pics of 2 months ago, and said to have an alpha in August.
Percent Complete- 25%
Estimated Release- January(This time I'm giving myself time.)

Particle Generator:
Overview: Builds particles from fireballs to waterfalls, and even just simple rain effects.
Percent Complete- 10% (Still toying around with it)
Estimated Release- January(Ideally, I'd like to build it inside of my Matrix Editor.)

DDA:
Overview: This is my alien compo entry. It's a mix of genres.
Percent Complete- 15%
Estimated Release- December 20th.

Overview: My Personal project
Percent Complete- On hold.(Still practicing modeling, and waiting to finish matrix editor/particle generator.)
Estimated Release- Q2004
