I spent about 30 minutes on this simple Time of Day system using Project Blue.

VIDEO

The length of day can be altered simply by changing a variable's value. Obviously things are sped up a lot for the video. The ambience also changes with the time of day.

Currently there isn't a sun or moon but I'd imagine this would be pretty easy to accomplish using the moveup commands.

NICE!

Is this using a skysphere instead of a skycube?

Thats perfectly ok the environment isnt really the most important thing here.
This is really nice work and very innovative, something I love to see.
Are you rotating a textured sphere?

Yep, it's basically a giant skysphere which rotates with a texture applied. Originally it looked pretty weird because you could see the sunset boundary moving across the sky, so I used bond1s animated texture shader to slowly fade to a different texture so it all looks normal.

Not bad looking, Marc! Perhaps it would look better if you made the skysphere a LOT bigger and just had the sphere barely fit over the level (having most of the sphere and the sphere's equator below the level) so that the entire sky moved. I imagine the axis of rotation on the sphere don't move at all in the sky.

Just a thought. Good work!

Very Nice Marc
The ground looked a bit too bright, but this is a really neat effect.

I always wanted to try putting a rotating half sphere inside the skybox for very slow moving clouds, but never got around to it.
This has inspired me to want to go ahead and try it.

The bright ground was caused by the bloom effect, I should really have turned it off for this video. Let me know when you make some progress with the clouds, i'm looking forward to that

Currently the sphere fills half the map, but that's just because I couldn't be bothered to scale it larger
